The Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in chemistry is an advanced, research-focused program  that prepares individuals for careers in academia, industry, or government sector. This program typically involves an in-depth study on any chosen area in the domain of chemistry and requires scholars to contribute, to the field of chemistry through their original research. It opens up diverse career paths and equips the graduates with the skills needed for professional roles in their careers. The first six months of the program is dedicated to coursework, designed to provide a strong theoretical foundation to research along with common subject-based topics. Scholars are then allowed to choose their own research area based on their interests. The Department of Chemistry comprises of faculty with expertise in diverse areas, including materials chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, organic synthesis, food technology, energy storage and production, computational chemistry, molecular recognition, and liquid crystals.

Scholars will be assigned a faculty supervisor, with whom they will work closely to design, develop, and execute their research projects. Research may involve experimental work, computational studies, or a combination of both. Research progress is evaluated  by a research advisory committee comprising the supervisor and two faculty members with expertise in the subject area, through regular meetings, presentations, and written reports. Ample opportunities for professional development, such as attending conferences, workshops, and presenting research findings, are available. Scholars are often encouraged to gain teaching experience, usually through serving as teaching assistants. They are expected to adhere to high ethical standards in their research, including proper conduct and honesty in data handling and reporting. Ph.D. graduates are well trained to take up teaching/research positions at colleges and universities or work in research and development wings of pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology industries.

The MA Economics programme aims to form students with deep knowledge of economic theory and skill in empirical methodology to form ethically well-grounded students with ability for incisive reasoning. The programme seeks to strike a sound balance between theory and application along with an interdisciplinary dimension without diminishing the focus on Economics. This approach is meant to help students face the dynamic challenges in terms of academics and the market. In line with this approach the programme has a combination of courses related to economic theory, methodology and two streams of specialisations which, on the one hand meet the needs of corporate employment and on the other create the ability of applying economic theory to development problems of the country. More specifically students will be equipped to take up careers in academics, business consulting and analytics, civil society and activist organisations, the public sector and international civil services.

The programme is offered trimester-wise with thirteen core courses and seven open electives. Each course will earn four credits. Core and elective courses will be offered in a staggered manner and will have to be completed within the maximum duration of the programme.

The Master of Science in Sustainable Development (MSc Sustainable Development) is a comprehensive and a interdisciplinary program designed to address critical developmental gaps in India and South Asia. This two to four-year course is dedicated to creating the necessary capacity and resources to meet emerging needs for sustainable development. The program emphasizes the central importance of sustainability in various organizational agendas, spanning from corporations and non-governmental organizations to UN agencies, bilateral organizations, political parties, local governments, and international funding agencies. Students opting for this program will acquire first-hand knowledge and skills to tackle pressing issues such as global warming, limited energy resources, population growth, and the rise of newer economies. The curriculum involves interaction with international experts, employing pedagogies like problem-based and project-based learning, case studies, and field visits. The program structure consists of 13 core courses (four credits each) and seven open electives (four credits each), totaling 80 credits for degree completion. 

Core courses are distributed across trimesters, with three in the first trimester, two each in the second to fifth trimesters, and a dissertation in the final trimester. Open electives are offered from the second to the fifth trimester, with one each in trimesters two to five and two in the final trimester. Candidates can choose electives from any of the five Choice-Based Credit programs offered by the university, but they are restricted to taking a maximum of two electives from one program, including their parent program. The duration of the program ranges from a minimum of two years to a maximum of four years. An additional year extension is possible with an extra fee. Successful completion of the program requires passing a minimum of 20 courses, accumulating 80 credits, including mandatory core courses. Overall, the MSc Sustainable Development program equips students to actively contribute to sustainable development efforts in the region and globally, preparing them for diverse roles across sectors committed to addressing the challenges of our rapidly changing world.

M.Sc., (Zoology) curriculum is designed to give the students an insight into the structure, behaviour, physiology, classification, evolution, and ecology of animals. With the global standards of the curriculum, graduates in zoology, will have expertise in various aspects of the animal kingdom, ranging from microscopic organisms to complex vertebrates. The course covers various aspects of biology including animal anatomy and physiology, ethology (animal behaviour), taxonomy

and classification, ecology, evolution, conservation and wildlife biology, paleozoology, vertebrate and invertebrate zoology etc. The programme is designed in such a way that it sharpens the scientific temperament of the student to serve the community in large. The emphasis on ethical and analytical research skills and practice skills to provide psychosocial interventions focusing health and wellness equips students to work in  various settings.

 
 

 

The MA Public Policy is a 2-year, full-time interdisciplinary post graduate programme. The program hopes to give a structured intervention at the PG level of related aspects like writing, music, Nattuvangam, Choreography and so on. The primary aim of the program is not just to help the students hone their skills of dance exclusively  but  also gain knowledge about the 

various other aspects which will help them gain an integrated sense of the art form as a whole. Thus, Bharatanatyam being the core paper, each semester will also have, alongside, papers on Carnatic music, nattuvangam, makeup, choreography and so on. Students who have secured 75% marks and above in the first six semesters are eligible to qualify for a 4-year degree (Honours / Honours with Research) in Psychology, or may be eligible to pursue an Honours degree in Music.

 

 

 

 

 

The Bachelors in Performing Arts is envisioned for students who have a flair for dance, music and theatre and are looking for structured intervention at the UG level. The programme hopes to give a strong platform for our students to develop a passion for the arts, sharpen their artistic skills and broaden their theoretical base. While the focus will be predominantly within the parameters of dance, music and theatre, other art forms would act as subsidiaries under this three-dimensional approach. The primary aim of the programme is not to make students experts in one art form or the other, but introduce them to the possibilities with art and to help them get an 

integrated sense of art.  It is desirable that every student continues to work under an artist/group in one art form or the other outside curriculum, towards long term development. The programme aims to develop performing arts and psychological skills in practical ways to build experience grounded in scientific backing with familiarity in emerging technologies. The curriculum for the four year programme (8 Semesters), has been designed to enable the students to get an overview of the various aspects related to launching and managing a business effectively; as well as giving them an opportunity to specialize in a functional area of management that they would like to pursue in their careers. The BBA programme provides students with the opportunity for multi-disciplinary learning through various generic electives. The programme focuses on developing and equipping students to meet the managerial challenges of the 21st century. The ability to work in teams is also focused upon as a key skill to be developed for success in the work-place. 
 

The programme also aims to develop the student’s independent thinking, decision-making capability and research aptitude. Learning is enhanced through many pedagogical tools like case studies, presentations, internships, research projects, industrial visits, and guest lecturers from a pool of industry experts. The Undergraduate Programme in Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Decision Science (Industry Integrated) is offered by the School of Business and Management. The School believes in developing socially responsible business leaders with the spirit of inquiry through academic and industry engagement. The programme is designed based on the UGC Guidelines for Higher Education institutions to offer Apprenticeship / Internship embedded Degree Programme released in July 2020 to promote employability and active linkage between the higher education system and industry, non-commercial and commercial enterprises/organizations.
BBA Decision Science is a three-year programme with six semesters. This programme allows students to learn from the University and train as apprentices at Mu Sigma (A Decision Science Company) simultaneously.

School being a member of AACSB and Ranked as 60 by NIRF’2023, the programme ensures the development of student’s independent thinking, decision-making capability and research aptitude. Learning, with eminent and qualified faculties, is enhanced through many pedagogical tools like case studies, presentations, internships, research projects, industrial visits, and live-projects at Mu Sigma under the guidance of industry experts. Aimed at the holistic development of the students, the School facilitates participation in various National and International fests. This program is designed to facilitate students in pursuing the Chartered Accountancy Course of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Over the last 14 years, an in-house facilitation center has been developed, ensuring that students are guided and provided with the necessary skill set to take up Chartered Accountancy exams. The facilitation team is integrated with the Undergraduate program, ensuring grooming, training, and mentoring are done in such a manner that allows students to pursue the UG program with CA. The facilitation center closely works with the UG program and forms an integral part of the offering.

Students will be able to complete the CA Foundation and the Intermediate levels along with the Articleship requirement during their four years of the BCom Finance & Accountancy Program.

investigates music (sound cultures) in cultural, social, and ritual aspects. While being mainly - but not exclusively - focused on Music of South Asia, our program prepares students in studying music cultures form all over the world, and assists them in approaching music from a variety of perspectives.

Investigates learner-centred approaches and the constituent aspects to music education at any level of scope (preferably vocational, secondary or tertiary levels). The program prepares candidates for teacher education in their preferred area of musical specialisation.

Our department invites applications for research in the following topics:

1. Innovative and sustainable learner-centred approaches for any topic in practical (vocal / instrumental) or classroom music (composition, music theory, history, etc.).
2. Aspects of curriculum design including (but not limited to) immersive delivery; assessment; social justice; motivation and engagement; epistemology; phenomenology; automation; artificial intelligence implementation; ethics; and general music teacher education (and their subcomponents).

Qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods approaches may be adopted in case study approaches. Proposed interventions must have their topics derived from data-driven sources (not a priori). Although mainly focused on western approaches to music education, the pedagogical approaches of any musical background may be undertaken, as long as learner-centred pedagogical methodologies are the main focus of the proposed research.
