So many elements of performing in theatre are relevant to the work teachers will be doing in classrooms. A theatre in Education workshop is conducted for the BEd students in the first few weeks of their course.
On July 11th the workshop by Theatre in Education was organized with the aim of improving the understanding we had about theater’s importance in education. The session started with the address by Mr. Sibu, who divided the class into three smaller groups. The first session was on puppetry in education conducted by Mrs. Lath. She shared the importance of puppetry in a classroom and touched on few aspects like voice modulation, creativity and other topics pertaining to the same. The next session was conducted by Mr. Rajath who gave us an insight into proscenium theatre. He taught the different parts of the proscenium or the stage. The third session was on street theatre which was facilitated by Mr. Prashanth who has a great experience in this form of theatre and has done more than 300 street plays. He conducted simple activities and games where we had to make animal noises then come up with single story lines musically. He also taught us few vocal and physical exercises for the voice and body.
The next session was a choreography session. We were taught a simple piece to perform live for the inauguration of Darpan, the intra-collegiate fest which was a surprise planned for us. Our session was concluded by all the groups performing for the inauguration which was a grand success. We had wonderful time learning about theatre and its forms and a lot on how to apply all of this in our classroom.
