Metamorphosis held on 3rd September was the first marathon organized by the Bannerghatta Road Campus of CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The event was organised to support the cause of differently-abled community Jeevanabhimanagara-based Welfare Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled Society (WARDS) The marathon was flagged off by Associate Dean Dr Jyothi Kumar at 6.30 am and the runners had to cover distance of 6.9 km and around 850 participants including faculty members took active part in the event.
The marathon ended with former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad gracing the occasion. He delivered a speech where he appreciated the concept of a marathon for a social cause. Winners were Rijan Gaha securing first place and Pradeep Kumar Sharma securing second place in the boys’ section. Swati S secured first place and Shri Nithya secured second place in the girls’ section. And, among the faculty members Mr Appasai from the IT Department and Mrs. Sunita Kumari from the Management Department were the winners.
The committees behind the scenes were instrumental in making this event a success. Student Welfare Office (SWO) volunteers and NCC cadets were incharge of managing the crowd and traffic. There were more than 150 volunteers working over a month in organising the event . And, its important to acknowledge the support extended by the Hulimavu Traffic Police in making the event a grand success.
