6th SLCU NMCC Report
School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) hosted the 6th Annual National Moot court competition from 9th September 2015 to 11th September 2015. Over the past 6 years, our Annual National Moot Court Competition has garnered the reputation of being one of the most sought after Constitutional Law Moots in the country. The competition this year saw participation from 58 teams across India and had the privilege of hosting highly respected dignitaries from Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka and members of 25 reputed law firms.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Justice Ruma Pal and Professor V.S. Mallar two very distinguished legal luminaries whose contributions to the field of law, both in terms of their service and dedication to the profession, as well as to the academic world which has shaped and influenced the practice of law in our country.
On the first day, we saw 58 participating teams go through 2 gruelling preliminary rounds with persistent questioning and detailed analysis of law. After a long day of tireless and strenuous rounds, the top 8 teams moved on to the Quarter Final Rounds.
The following day witnessed the quarterfinalists battling it hard for four elusive Semifinal Spots. This was occupied by CMR Law School, Bengaluru, SLS Pune, NLIU Bhopal and Jindal Global Law School.
Consequently 2 teams, CMR Law School and SLS Pune qualified for the Final Rounds based on their arguments and mooting abilities. We witnessed every bit of their remarkable skills as they faced each other to win the coveted title as Winner of the 6th National Moot Court Competition.
The bench for the finals comprised of Hon’ble Mr Justice MarkandeyaKatju, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Mr Justice A.S. Bopanna, Judge, High Court of Karnataka; Mr SharadJavli, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India; Mr Krishna S. Dixit, Asst. Solicitor General of India; Dr. C.S. Patil, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli.
CMR Law School were declared winners of the competition and SLS, Pune came in a close second. The Best Speaker was awarded to Adithya Paul Ambrose, CMR Law School Bangalore and Best Memorial was awarded to Praveen Gandhi College of Law.
The event this year has grown exponentially and this was reflected by the number of participating teams and the quality of submissions made. The judges throughout the competition brought out the best in all the teams. The 6th National Moot Court Competition was a grand success and we hope to come back bigger and better next year.
