International Yoga Day was celebrated in CHRIST (Deemed to be University) on 21st June 2017, Tuesday. It was organised by the School of Education, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Hundreds of students gathered at the Central Block for the mass yoga demonstration by Dr Balachandran K, HoD of Department of Computer Science and Engineering and an active yoga practitioner on this day at 8.30 AM, reminding us of the importance of yoga in daily life. He began the session by delivering a note on the importance of yoga and how it develops us physically, mentally as well as holistically. In this world of chaos, celebration of International Yoga Day was a great opportunity to imbibe in us the value of discipline, and to bring harmony, happiness and success in each and every person. The importance of inculcating yoga in school and college curriculum was also emphasised by the speaker. The session then went on with the performing of various asanas like Suryanamaskar, Pawanmuktasana, Trikonasana, etc and a few variations of Pranayama. Dr.Balachandran explained the significance of performing each of these aasanas along with breathing. The students were very pleased with their stretching capabilities and Dr Balachandran assured that practice would make us “yoga-fect” as each aasana comes with its unique set of benefits.
By the end of the session, the participants were relaxed and rejuvenated and learnt the important lesson of avoiding unhealthy lifestyle practices and to embrace the benefits of being natural and healthy with the help of yoga.
