The School of Education in collaboration with the Teaching Learning and Enhancement Cell, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) organised a panel discussion on the section on Higher Education from the Draft National Education Policy (NEP), on July 30, 2019, between 2 and 4.30 pm. This was in keeping with the directions by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to educational institutions to generate dialogue and encourage a review of the draft.  The audience comprised of Faculty from various departments, students from across the School of Education  and other, MPhil, and PhD scholars from across disciplines.  
The discussion focused on Part II of the draft. It began with a review of the different sections on higher education which was followed by recommendations from the panelists. The discussion started with inputs from the Registrar, Dr Anil Joseph Pinto. He summarized the sections on quality universities and colleges, institutional restructuring and collaboration, liberal education, empowered governance and effective leadership in higher education, transforming the regulatory system, promotion of Indian languages and Rashtriya Shiksha Aayog. This was followed by his insights on the same areas. Dr Pinto’s discussion was followed by inputs from the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof John Joseph Kennedy, who deliberated on optimal learning environments and faculty development. Dr DNS Kumar, Director, Center for Research, spoke about the national research foundation, followed by a review of the section on teacher education by the Head, School of Education, Prof. Jose Cherian. Head, Department of Commerce, Dr Nithila Vincent addressed the section on professional education. Our Pro Vice Chancellor, Fr Jose CC discussed the implications of the suggested financial changes.
