Book Mark 2018

The School of Education and the Knowledge Centre jointly hosted Bookmark 2018.Christ (Deemed to be University) is one of its kind to celebrate a library fest. The three-day event started on 12 July 2018 and ended on 14 July 2018. Students and teachers from the entire campus were invited to visit the stalls.
Dr Jain Mathew, Associate Dean, Commerce and Management, Dr Anil Pinto, Registrar, Dr Jose Cherian, HOD, School of Education, Sree Kumar Nair, Librarian and Shaiju Chacko, Librarian inaugurated Bookmark on 12 July 2018.
Dr Jain Matthew addressed the gathering. He probed the audience to think about the real meaning of education. Education, according to him is self-discovery and it can be attained through the channel of a university.
Dr Anil Pinto emphasized on the functions of education. According to him, education builds and effects the society.  He encouraged the student- teachers to read more.

A library is an investment and not an expense as the value and effect of a book is life long. The objective of Bookmark was to encourage students to use the library and make it an active investment process. The library is a means through which a student establishes a link between the past, present and future. Hence, the event stressed on the role of the library as a means through which students can attain holistic development.

The students of School of Education put up three stalls namely, Bibliotheca, Vishwakosh and Khoj. Bibliotheca was concerned with general fiction and non-fiction books. The stall had interesting games like mind fizz, cup- flips and hunt the word that caught the attention of students and teachers.  Viswakosh focused on encyclopaedias, and engaged the audience with games such as picture connection pick and speak. Khoj concentrated upon print and online journals and challenged the audience with a compelling quiz.

There were 22 stalls occupied by various publishing houses like Bloomsbury Publishing, Penguin Books, Taylor and Francis, Oxford University Press, and Cambridge University Press, displayed an array of books from fiction to academic books. Students had an opportunity to procure the books directly from the publishing houses.
Students from the School of Education presented a library orientation for 67 first year undergraduate and postgraduate classes. The objective of the presentation was to create awareness about the library facilities.  It aimed at encouraging students to access the library facilities both offline and online for references, borrowing books and student discussions.

As a part of the golden jubilee celebration, Dr Biju K C from the department of Media Studies displayed a photo wall of the history of the university on the last day of the event.  The photo wall exhibited the 50 years of Christ (Deemed to be University) in Excellence and Service.
Overall, it was an important, educative and a splendid event.
