Finance Club - Arthavikas

Finance Club is a hub of knowledge, a platform for interactive learning and facilitate for career progress by connecting students, industry, alumni and academia. The students of MBA (Financial Management), Department of Management Studies of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), have instituted the Finance Club that attempts to take the students to the doorsteps of the professional world; be it via Finometric, its monthly news letter, which features articles and research publications from the students themselves, or via the annual Finance festival - ARTHAYUDH. It also runs Fund Management and trading games, which help hone the skills of future investment bankers and portfolio analysts. The Forum - Finance Club conducts various activities and provides an avenue for members to exchange and enrich their knowledge. Every fortnight, different activities takes place, where members, volunteer to come prepared on a contemporary topic of their choice. They first put forth their comprehension to the club, which is followed by a group discussion.

 

The Finance Club promotes finance related activities and careers throughout the Christ university community, through events such as the Investment Banking, Investment Management, Venture Capital/Private Equity, or Corporate Finance. Some of the key activities for the year are

 

·  Newsletter  - Finometric – an exclusive finance and investment monthly newsletter series

·  External speaker series and workshops on

· Investment Banking - Internal series on analysis of M&A deals wherein deal rationale and structures of corporate merger and synergy effects.

· Private Equity & Issue market analysis - Internal series on analysis of PE deals wherein deal rationale and structures are discussed.

· Banking (Corporate, Retail and Private) - Equity Trading and Equity research workshop

·  ArthaYudh National level Finance fest.

·  Research report series: analysis and presentation of Market research reports.

·  Simulated trading game / competition

·  Industry Academia Interface & Panel Discussions

·  Focused workshops conducted by industry professionals on various career options in Finance to understand the business, job requirements, skill identification and key preparation methods to build the necessary skill sets.

·  Career Growth - Intense and focused interview preparation by the Focus Group Directors through skill enhancement, sharing of business knowledge, profile mapping, Resume reviews, Mock Interviews, Interview questions, guidelines, etc.

·  Days on Dallal Street Trek: ONE-Day Trek that visits the top Investment Banks - December / January 2012 timeframe

·  Interview Prep: The Finance Club provides mock interview sessions to final year students

 

Arthayudh: Inter - Colligiate National Level Finance Fest

Arthayudh as the name signifies The Combat for Money is the National Level Finance Fest hosted by the budding financial wizards of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) under the banner of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Management Association (CUMA). It is held every year in the month of august/September. Students across the country will participate in this programme.

 

INVESTORS INFORMATION CELL (IIC)

The Investors Information Cell intends to impart financial education to the investors thereby empowering them to take informed decisions. The making of an Informed Investment is an imperative practice leading to wealth creation in the longrun. The IIC aims to enlighten  about do’s and don’ts to keep in mind while investing in equity and bonds, Insurance products, mutual funds and overall portfolio construction approach, trading, clearing and settlement, dematerialization of shares/debt market and investor grievance systems available with market regulators. It also intends to provide tax planning and other related aspects of wealth management.

 

IIC an exclusive student unit that provides a platform for students to develop research skills on various finance and investment aspects and to experience the practicals of finance and investment consultancy. The cell at present extends its consultancy service to the staff members of the university on issues like tax planning, retirement and estate planning, equity and bond investments, and insurance policies. The student associates of the cell are guided by team of dedicated faculty members of the department who posses research qualification and experience in the field of finance and investment.

 

The core ideology of IIC is to cultivate interest in financial markets as an academic discipline as well as promote it as a career option of choice within the student community in the fields of capital markets and investment consultants. IIC also serves as a platform for increased visibility of the financial services profession through increased student-industry interaction.

 

In terms of specific activities, IIC provides continuous guidance and investment calls by the team of students and faculty member for the prospective investors available in this industry.

IIC will have a number of workshops and competitions to come out with the investment call by the team of students and faculty members for the industry.

 

Activities under IIC

a)  Retirement Planning and Estate Planning

This technique of financial planning deals with the planning for ‘Retirement’, which is a rare yet highly required aspect for an individual to plan his/her post-retirement life at the required level of income (per month or annual basis) he/she wants after retirement till the expected life. It consists of calculating the required monthly/annual annuity by using the ‘Time-Value of Money’ concept and thereby attaining the amount to be invested till retirement so as to achieve the desired annuity post-retirement. The ‘Estate Planning’ deals with the collection of preparation tasks that serve to manage an individual’s asset base in the event of their in-capacitation or death, including the bequest of assets to heirs and the settlement of estate taxes.

b) Insurance and Risk Planning

This technique of financial planning deals with planning for the insurance needs of an individual. Insurance is a technique for dealing primarily with pure risks that can be categorized as personal risks, property risks, and liability risks. The similarity of the financial planning process to risk management and needs analysis is then explained, with the financial planning process being used to discuss the steps involved in helping individuals and families deal with the possibility of financial loss associated with pure risks.

c)  Tax Planning

This technique of tax planning deals with planning the finances of an individual prudently so as to minimize the tax liability. Prudent financial planning can help plan investments in such a way that benefits of tax planning can be enjoyed. Usually considered as a frustrating task but with some amount of commitment and patience filing returns can be seen as a simple task.

d) Investment Planning

This technique of financial planning deals with planning for the investment needs of an individual by placing of funds into the proper investment vehicles based on the investors future goals, time horizon, and priorities. This also takes into account the safety of the investments as well as liquidity and level of return. Ideally, proper investment planning will allow the investors funds to produce financial rewards over time. Often, one of the highest priorities of an individual, investment planning is an intensive tool to overcome the challenges proposed by the market and help the individual to achieve his goal. This will focus on investments related to equities, bonds, commodities, F&O etc.
