The Department of Civil Engineering in association with Civil Simplified (Skifi Labs Pvt Ltd) organized a two day workshop for the students of Civil Engineering on 28th and 29th of August 2015. The students of 3rd and 5th semester B.Tech attended the Bridge Design and Fabrication workshop. The students of 7th semester B.Tech attended the Construction Project Management Workshop along with two External participants. The Students of 1st and 3rd semester M.Tech attended the Foundation Analysis and Design workshop along with six external participants.
The workshop commenced with an inauguration session which was attended by campus coordinator Rev. Fr. Anthony Puthuserry. Prof Raghunandan Kumar delivered the inaugural address. Prof. Glady Jacob who was also present for the inauguration addressed the students and encouraged them to participate, learn and gain as much hands on experience as they can from the workshop.
BRIDGE DESIGN WORKSHOP
The workshop was attended by the students of 3rd and 5th semester B.Tech. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Niranjan and were highly interactive. On day one the students learnt about the different types of bridges, the fundamental theory about design of bridges and how to analyze a simple truss bridge using Java based software.
On day two the students fabricated the bridge they had designed using Balsa wood. Once the fabrication was complete, students tested the bridge and merit award for most efficient design, best fabrication and most innovative bridge were announced. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The workshop was attended by the students of 7th semester B.Tech. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Vasanth and the sessions were highly enthusiastic and very knowledgeable for the students. The students learnt about the fundamentals of construction management along with hands on sessions on how to plan a project using the software Primavera. The workshop was also attended by two external participants from BMS College of Engineering which was very encouraging.

FOUNDATION ENGINEERING AND ANALYSIS
The workshop was attended by the students of 1st and 3rd semester M.Tech. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Lantav Jain and the sessions were highly practical and very informative for the students. The students learnt about the different types of foundations, the basic design concepts along with hands on sessions on analysis and design of Raft foundation using software SAFE. The workshop was attended by eight external participants from various colleges in and around Bangalore which brought in the competitive spirit among the students which was highly encouraging.
VALEDICTORY
The workshop ended with a valedictory function. Prof. Srinidhi delivered the vote of thanks. The students from each class of both B.Tech and M.Tech along with the external participants gave their opinion and valuable feedback and encouraged the department to conduct more workshops in future.
