NATIONAL SEMINAR:
EMERGING TRENDS AND INNOVATIONS IN TEACHER EDUCATION
Education is the crux of any social, emotional, political or personal attainment. However, education in itself is not enough in today’s competitive scenario and requires a much rigorous preparation to remain at the position of advantage for long. The 21st century education needs a combination of skills and education that makes the students ready for the real world. A lot needs to be done in the direction of educational issues and trends. And teacher education should strive to address these issues and achieve a holistic transformation of educational systems and offer a foundation on which quality education, leadership can be achieved.
The National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends and Innovations in Teacher Education’ was conducted on 19 February 2018. It was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Gururaj Karajagi, Chairman, Academy of Creative Thinking, Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto, Registrar, Christ Deemed to be University, Dr. Jose Cherian, Head of the Department, School of Education, the delegates, participants, faculty and the students of School of Education, Christ Deemed to be University. Following the invocation and lighting of the lamp and a welcome by Dr Cherian, the inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Pinto and Dr Karajagi gave an enlightening keynote address.
The morning plenary sessions had 27 paper presentations on various themes like Policies and Reforms in Teacher Education, Quality Concerns in Teacher Education and Inclusive Education. The sessions were presided over by Dr. Srikantswamy, Dr. Surekha Chukkali, and Dr. Hemalatha K. The second plenary session saw 19 presenters, presenting their papers on themes like ICT in Teacher Education and Professional Development in Teacher Education. Dr. Aneesh Kumar and Dr Kennedy Andrew Thomas presided over these sessions.
The aim of this seminar was to initiate an informed dialogue among educators through leaders and practitioners on the path to 21st century learning based on direct experience with various educational initiatives and research into education reform models. The core of an excellent education system is based on talented teachers and integrating technology can fuel the teaching and learning- by nurturing all the necessary 21st century skills.
The objectives of this seminar were to-
1. To provide a national platform for teacher educators to share their views.
2. To know the current scenario of Teacher Education Program.
3. To discuss the trends and innovations in Teacher Education Program.
4. To discuss the role of quality in teacher education program.
5. To discuss the contribution of ICT in teacher education program.
The seminar ended with the valedictory function where Dr. Tony Sam George the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences addressed the gathering and Dr. Pramod Kumar, Convener of the Seminar presented the report of the Seminar and proposed the vote of thanks. The seminar concluded with the singing of Christ University Anthem.
The delegates were instructed to collect the certificates at the registration desk.
