The Higher education segment in India suffers from acute paucity of funds, lack of autonomy, burden of affiliation etc. It is characterized by extreme rigidity and lack of flexibility. The real weakness of the higher education is in the structure itself and there is a need for introspection and reflection on what we have achieved and where do we go from here during the times of globalization. The three day national conference organized by Christ College from 6-8 January 2005 was an attempt at that and scholars from all over India participated. Various papers on “The Impact of Globalization and WTO on Higher Education in India” were presented and absorbing discussion followed.
The papers in this volume represent a cross section of views on different aspects of higher education.
