Abstract:

Many researchers, policy makers and practitioners, often pushed in confusion about the innovations in public and private health financing and out of pocket expenditure incurred by the lower income people. This study explores the challenges faced by decentralized areas in health care sector especially in terms of indirect cost (user fees) incurred by the rural households. This chapter gives a broad perspective about the Indian health care system and the issues arising in the out of pocket expenditure incurred by the rural households. This will encourage a discussion on Indian health care system and a brief on how the Government is struggling to allot the funds successfully and transforms the existing health system more effective, efficient, affordable and equitable.
