Energy Audit

Energy Audit

The Energy Audit is a systematic evaluation of the University’s energy consumption, efficiency practices, and conservation measures. It aims to assess how energy resources are utilised across campuses and to identify opportunities for reducing consumption, improving efficiency, and promoting sustainable energy management.
Coordinated by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the Energy Audit supports the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible resource management. The audit also helps in establishing long-term strategies for energy conservation, adoption of best practices, and continuous monitoring of energy usage across institutional facilities.

Energy Audit 2024–25

The Energy Audit for the academic year 2024–25 was conducted across CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, during the period December 2025 to January 2026. The audit was carried out by the Consortium of Energy Auditors and Managers, with coordination and institutional support from the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Covering the Central, Bannerghatta Road, Kengeri, and Yeshwanthpur campuses, the audit involved a comprehensive assessment of academic blocks, laboratories, administrative buildings, hostels, libraries, and utility systems.

The primary objective of the audit was to establish standardized energy performance benchmarks, including Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and per capita consumption, while identifying major energy-consuming systems such as HVAC, lighting, and electrical infrastructure. The audit further aimed to develop a structured implementation roadmap with short-, medium-, and long-term energy conservation measures supported by cost–benefit analysis. In addition, the audit emphasized capacity building through student involvement and stakeholder engagement to promote awareness and adoption of energy-efficient practices. Overall, the scope extended beyond technical evaluation to creating a long-term, data-driven energy management framework aligned with national standards and best practices.

Based on the recommendations of the audit, the University has initiated and progressively implemented several measures to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability across campuses. These include the adoption of advanced energy monitoring systems with sub-metering, transition to energy-efficient LED lighting, optimization of HVAC operations, and increased integration of renewable energy sources such as solar power. Further initiatives such as smart automation, preventive maintenance protocols, and stakeholder awareness programs have strengthened operational efficiency. As a result, the institution has improved its infrastructure, reduced energy consumption and costs, and enhanced environmental performance. These efforts have significantly contributed to positioning the University as a model institution in sustainable campus management and continuous quality improvement.
