About

The Department of Physics and Electronics is an integral part of the university offering BSc with PCM, PME and CME combinations, MSc, MPhil and PhD programmes in the areas of material science, electronics, astrophysics and nuclear physics. The Department strives to set a benchmark in quality higher education with an emphasis on preparing the students to face the world outside in a dignified manner. Over the years the department has established as a centre of higher learning promoting teaching and research. The faculty members of the department carry out research in many frontier areas which includes crystallography, superconductivity, nano-materials, nuclear physics and astrophysics. The department has undertaken minor and major research projects supported by funding agencies such as UGC, DST and Centre for Research, Christ University. Several research papers have been published in various national & international journals apart from presentations across the globe. The class room teaching is made interactive by using various methods of teaching and learning which includes presentations, peer tutoring, use of software simulators, LMS moodle etc. In order to develop the practical skills in the students, the class room teaching is well supported by rigorous practical training conducted in the well equipped laboratories. The department has also been actively organizing guest lecturers, national/regional conferences, workshops, refresher courses, seminars, symposiums, exhibitions, quiz programmes, industry visits etc. in order to achieve all round development of students through association activities. It also emphasizes value addition programmes like certificate courses, holistic education etc.

Research programmes:

Department is conducting research actively in various areas of Nano Science, Material Science, Nuclear and Atomic Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics. The research has gained momentum in the recent past by acquiring funding from external agencies, viz. ISRO, DST, UGC and also from Center for Research, CHRIST Deemed to be University. These sponsorships have helped to create state of the art laboratories and instruments to carry further the research and development activities, which has resulted in many patents and quality publications. The department has collaboration with many National and International institutes and research centers. The department strives to bring in research-centered scientific temperament among students by actively involving Post-graduate and few Undergraduate students in the faculty projects. The MPhil and PhD program is designed to make sure the students are well exposed to the ever expanding frontiers of their research areas.

from the HOD


Welcome to the department of Physics and Electronics at Christ University. Our department, has set a benchmark in quality higher education with strong programs in research and academics, nationally and internationally recognized faculty members and a record of student success. We have distinct and dynamic undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs with more than 600 students and 20 faculty members, substantiated by international standard curriculum. Faculty of the department are pursuing projects in the forefront of modern research. Our research is distinguished across the discipline – condensed matter physics, material science, astrophysics, nuclear physics and renewal energy materials. The research programs are well funded by different government agencies. Presently all students in the Doctoral Program receive full financial support.

Department interacts closely with other Institutes/Universities/Organizations within India and abroad via established collaborations and various MOUs. Learning is not limited to just the classroom, but also continues in state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops, conferences, and international and multidisciplinary collaborations. The department also emphasizes value addition programs like various certificate courses, interdisciplinary courses, and holistic education.

The PG and UG students are also actively involved in the various research projects as a part of their curriculum, ensuring a vibrant teaching-learning culture. Come and join us to explore your academic excellence.
