Psycho Education

Psycho Education

In addition to the traditional model of counselling services, the CCHS team has many initiatives to build rapport and connectivity with students all through the academic year. One such activity is the Psycho education sessions.

Psycho education as an intervention appeared over 100 years ago, but the term was popularized in the 1980s.

The benefits of psycho education in an educational institution are:

  • Information sharing that improves level of understanding
  • Removing stigma / fears; instilling attitude of acceptance
  • Promote self-care techniques, increase an individual’s self-efficacy
  • Take responsibility for one’s well-being
  • Promote awareness among family/friends

Interactive classroom sessions are conducted by counsellors for all Ist year undergraduate students. The first session is usually an orientation about the institution, its policies, and CCHS team activities.

In subsequent sessions topics such as managing relationships, stress management, anger issues, self-esteem, body image, making healthy life-choices, resilience are covered. Activities, games, assessments, quizzes are used as tools in all sessions.
