Art Therapy
As the name suggests, art forms have been a therapeutic experience for humankind from ages. Music, painting, dance, etc have the power to elevate and heal us. Art therapy technique utilizes the power of creative expressions for engaging the client in a non-verbal communication process that can then lead towards healing or resolutions. An individual’s deepest thoughts and feelings are visualised through the medium of art. This approach is applicable for all age groups and there is no requirement for any “artistic skills”.
Benefits:
- The range of activities are manifold. In a session, a client may do painting, collages doodling, colouring, drawing, finger painting, clay modelling, sculpting.
- Research studies have shown that this technique is helpful for a wide range of issues.
The counsellor allows for self-expression with minimal guidance. The artwork is seen as a representation of the client’s inner world without any filters and is then discussed focussing on specific elements that are in it or not in it.
