On completion of 20 years of its functioning by the Centre for Social Action, the management is pleased to announce the new form that CSA would take henceforth. It has been observed that CSA has had remarkable achievements and contributions in community development and student volunteerism. CSA has grown large in terms of programmes and consequently, the expectations of the stakeholders also has increased manifold. Christ University seeks to ensure that the functions, processes, procedures, practices and finances of CSA are aligned to the context of University’s vision, mission and strategic goals.
Considering the complex nature of activities at CSA and the increasing responsibilities of Prof. Johny Joseph as the COE in view of growth of the University made it necessary to redesign the structure of the CSA and the management has deputed a new team to monitor CSA activities across major areas like Student Programmes, Community Development, Child Sponsorship and Waste Management Programme. This is also to thank Prof. Johny Joseph the outgoing Director of CSA for his dedication and devotion in shaping the CSA into a world of wonderful opportunities for all Christites and the community at large.
The new team at CSA will include Fr Jose CC, Pro Vice Chancellor, Fr Jobi Xavier, CFO and Fr Jiby Jose, continuing to be in charge of all finance-related matters.
Dr. Victor Paul

Dr. Victor Paul is the director of CSA, whose is an excellent blend of Development and Education. He has worked as the Country Director of Education Development Centre (EDC) and Chief of Party for USAID supported T4 project in India, a technology-based project supporting state governments in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi to increase equity, access and quality in over 350,000 Government schools and reaching over 42 million children.
Dr. Victor Paul’s 34 years of experience in areas like NGO Management, Project Planning and Management, Teacher Development, Curriculum Development, Developing ICT tools for Teaching & Learning, Emergency Management and Response, Leading nd managing cross-cultural teams in multiple locations and humanitarian and development issues especially those related to children, gave him an opportunity to learn and develop innovative programmes in the development sector.
Currently, working with CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Bengaluru coordinating the Departments of Sociology and Social Work. Prior to this assignment, he has worked with national and international organizations like EDC, CARE and UNICEF, leading Educational/developmental projects in various sectors like Education, Community Development, Labour Welfare & Personnel management, networking, capacity building of NGOs, Training, Disaster Relief & Reconstruction. Dr. Victor Paul is overseeing the administration of CSA.
Dr. Valarmathi B is an Associate Professor at the Department of Commerce, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. She possesses 19 years of experience in teaching and academic research specializing in the area of Taxation. Dr Valarmathy is also in the Board of Question Paper Setters at CMR University, Jain University, and Indian Academy. She provides research guidance to PhD scholars and has attended and presented papers in many research seminars and academic conferences. Dr.Valarmathy was an active member of NCC and NSS in her college days.

Dr. Jyothi Thomas is a faculty in the Department of Computer Sc. and Engineering. She has been associated with Christ University since 2009. Apart from showing keen interest in academics and sports, she is passionate about social issues right from her school days. As a faculty she brought in the concept of service learning in day to day teaching. She is a passionate teacher and innate social activist. Apart from teaching with dedication and full commitment, she blends social concerns such as eradication of poverty, equality, justice, women empowerment etc., in her teaching. She motivates her students to be sensitive to the issues affecting the immediate neighbourhood in particular and the world at large. Her every session would always end with a relevant social message.
She was an accomplished athlete during her school and college days. She had many state and national records to her credit. She is a recipient of “Best Socially Responsible Faculty” in 2018 by IIR and “Tech Savvy Academicians in Higher Education Across India” for the year 2019 by The Academic Council of uLektz.

Dr Suja John is an Associate Professor of Tourism Studies with School of Business Studies and Social Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). She has been associated with our university for more than 17 years, in various capacities. Dr Suja has completed her MPhil and PhD, both in Tourism, from Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal.
She has published two books titled Community Based Decentralised Waste Management for Sustainable Tourism and Tourists Behaviour in the age of Climate Change. She has also published research articles in International and national referred journals, and has also participated and presented papers in various conferences and seminars in India and abroad. Dr Suja is a subject expert for the Tourism E-Content Development Project-National Mission on Education trough ICT, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. As a part of the project, she has developed two core papers namely, Hygiene and Sanitation, and Geography for Tourism.
Dr Suja is also the Chairperson for the Board of Question Paper Setters in Master of Tourism Administration for Calicut University, Mangalore University and for the Mysore University Examinations. Presently Dr Suja is engaged in a Major Research Project at Christ University on ‘A longitudinal study on the Karnataka State Tourism Policy’ and she is also an IATA qualified instructor.

Dr.D. David Winster Praveenraj is a Faculty, Management Consultant, Soft Skills Trainer and a Motivational Speaker. He is into conducting Management Development Programmes, Personality Development & Personal Effectiveness Programmes for executives at various levels. He has rendered consultancy services in Drafting & Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, Design of Performance Management Systems, Drafting HR policies, Competency Mapping, Implementation of Quality Circles, arriving at Management Policies, Market Research, Advertising and Branding for varied industries out of which a major contribution is for the RMG Industry. Dr. David has a flair for adopting novel teaching methodologies and experiential learning tools in delivery of courses and the various programmes he conducts. He has conducted more than 90 MDPs for clients in various sectors. He has published 5 Text Books in the area of Marketing. He has more than 25 publications to his credit in National / International and Referred Journals. He has presented more than 50 papers in various National / International conferences.

Mr. Kalpesh Patkar is an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Christ University, Pune Lavasa Campus. He has a sincere & dedicated teaching experience of 3.5 years. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he serves as the Faculty Coordinator for the Center for Social Action (CSA) at Christ University. He has spearheaded numerous initiatives to promote social outreach, community engagement, and legal awareness among underprivileged communities in surrounding villages near Lavasa. His professional journey includes significant contributions to diverse NGOs in Pune and surrounding areas. His research portfolio features publications in peer-reviewed journals, UGC CARE-listed journals, and Scopus-indexed journals.

Dr Mariya K Joseph a passionate Social Worker specialized in Human Resource Development and Management. 2 years of experience as a Full time Social Worker at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Pune Lavasa Campus. Over the past two years, she has actively engaged in the community development field, gaining valuable hands-on experience that complements the academic background. Also she is coordinating the Student Volunteerism along with the Faculty coordinator in the Campus, by initiating various projects and activities. Focusing on quality education to the students nearby Lavasa campus, she had initiated weekend classes under the leadership of the student community of CSA. Her Role in CSA enabled good communication, teamwork, and leadership skills which has been utilized for the Development of the community.

Dr Shaila Manoj Varghese is Working as a Program Manager with CHRIST (Deemed to be University) since 2021, where I am engaged with college Students and through student volunteerism, trying to bring out their potential to make some positive impact on the lives of women, children and youth from the marginalized community and also addressing issues related to environmental and climatic change and animal protection. Thus, bringing about community development and inculcating social values within students.
Bench Member with Child Welfare Committee- Worked as a Bench member of child welfare committee, where I dealt with children in need of care and protection and worked towards their welfare, rehabilitation, restoration, repatriation and counseling.
Board Member with Juvenile Justice Board- Worked as a Board member with Juvenile Justice Board, where I dealt with children in conflict with the law and worked towards providing them justice and their reformation, so that they could be absorbed back to the society and be rehabilitated.
Coordinator with Adoption Coordinating Agency- Through adoption I was able to find loving and caring families to many orphans, relinquished and abandoned children, through legal procedures.
