MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN SOCIOLOGY

 

Master of Philosophy Programme in Sociology is aimed at generating future researchers who would be equipped with an ability to develop a critical understanding of social realities. This Programme is a research degree and it would therefore be beneficial for individuals who wish to pursue a career in research, be it in academics or in development sector or in industry. The programme would also be useful in providing a platform for individuals who wish to pursue their Ph.D. degree in future. By making the students undergo rigorous academic exercise it is an aim of the Department of Sociology to produce a group of students through the M.Phil. Programme who would be in a position to generate an atmosphere of knowledge creation and thereby contribute towards the growth of society.
The Programme consists of 4 theory papers

  • General Research Methodology
  • Research methodology and Statistical techniques in Sociology

Two electives offered by the Department are

  • Gender Studies
  • Organizational Studies

M.Phil Programme in Sociology at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is a three-semester programme spanning over one and a half years. The first two semesters involves course works. Third semester is dedicated towards writing a dissertation. Conducting a research based on primary data and bringing out a dissertation monograph on that basis is an essential requirement of the programme. Even though third semester is dedicated towards writing the dissertation, preparation for dissertation begins from the first semester itself.
