Doctoral study in chemistry at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) prepares scholars for research and teaching careers with diverse emphases on basic, life, medical, physical, energy, materials, analytical and environmental sciences. The Ph. D Program is designed towards developing within each student the ability to do creative scientific research. The program aims to provide scholars with a background in advanced course work and chemical laboratory techniques that will prepare them to carry out an original, independent investigation to an acceptable contribution to the body of contemporary knowledge. During the course work the four courses, Foundations of Research, Methods in Research for Science, Research Publication and Research Writing for Science. The Department of Chemistry is committed in providing academic advice in support of student’s research and their scholarly and professional development.  This advising relationship entails collaborative and sustained engagement with mutual respect by both the supervisor and supervisee. Department encourages scholars in engaging in inter disciplinary research which in turn helps them to understand and integrate scientific concepts. Scholars can work in the core areas of research as listed below. The Ph. D program provides opportunities to share and disseminate research findings and innovations through seminars, conferences and publications in reputed journals.

CHRIST follows University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and the subsequent Amendments.

The minimum eligibility of candidates intending to pursue a doctoral programme is a pass with a minimum of 55% in the postgraduate programme in the discipline/specialization. Students who have completed their post-graduation from an international university must submit an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Every candidate has to take the PhD Entrance Examination and Interview to be held on December 2, 2022, or any other date announced by the office of admissions. However, as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2016 (#5.1), those who qualify UGC- NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SLET / GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil Programme shall be exempted from the PhD Entrance Examination. Those candidates take a Research Skill Assessment Test along with their Personal Interview.

Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/GATE/ teacher fellowship holder (KSET, SET etc.) or have passed M.Phil Programme may apply for PhD any time of the year by sending their Research Proposal and CV to phd@christuniversity.in

Time of Payment: All the candidates have to pay the I Year fee immediately after confirmation of the admission. For subsequent years, fees must be paid annually on or before 15th March.
 
1. Though the fee is fixed for all years, there will be a periodic nominal increase to meet the rise in costs.
2. Admission registration fee of INR 5000/- (US $80 for foreign nationals/PIO/OCI) is non-refundable in the event of cancellation of admission. This fee will be apart from cancellation charges if any applicable.     
3. All Candidates If “Selected” after appearing for the final selection process, the fee may be paid through Net banking facility / NEFT / RTGS.
4. Payment / Transfer of fees does not guarantee the admission.

1. NRI fee is applicable for the first year for candidates who have studied foreign syllabus (has to be approved by UGC / AIU) in the qualifying examination of study in India. (The above condition is not applicable to NRI and candidates applied under NRI Category).

2. NRI fee is applicable for the full duration of the Programme for candidates who;
    2.1. Have pursued and completed their last qualifying exam from outside India.
    2.2. Are NRI and candidates who have applied under the NRI category.
 
3. To claim the Indian / Karnataka category fee, the candidates should have studied last 7 years in India / Karnataka. (Not applicable for OCI, PIO and Foreign Nationals).
