Commitment to Net-Zero by 2050

At CHRIST (Deemed to be University), we recognise the urgent need to address the climate crisis and our responsibility as an educational institution to lead by example. In alignment with national and global efforts to combat climate change, we proudly commit to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the year 2050.

We envision a future where sustainability is integrated into every aspect of university life—from our academic programmes and research to campus operations and community engagement. Achieving net-zero emissions is a crucial step in realising this vision and contributing meaningfully to the global sustainable development agenda.

Our Commitment

We pledge to:

  • Reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 across all campuses and operations.
  • Reduce direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2 and 3) emissions through energy efficiency, responsible procurement, sustainable transportation, and waste minimisation.
  • Invest in renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Integrate sustainability in the curriculum, research, and community initiatives to educate and empower future leaders.
  • Engage students, faculty, staff, and partners in collaborative action towards a low-carbon future.
  • Report transparently on our progress through annual sustainability disclosures and independent assessments.

Our Pathway to Net-Zero

To realise our goal, we will:

  1. Conduct a comprehensive carbon audit to establish our baseline emissions and identify key areas for reduction.
  2. Develop a Climate Action Plan with clear targets, timelines, and accountability measures.
  3. Promote sustainable infrastructure and green building practices in all campus developments.
  4. Enhance research and innovation in climate solutions and environmental stewardship.
  5. Foster partnerships with government, industry, and civil society to scale impact beyond our campuses.

Call to Action

We call on our students, faculty, staff, alumni, collaborators, and the broader community to join us in this journey. Together, we can drive the transformation needed to ensure a just, resilient, and sustainable future for all.
