PhD in Economics envisages a probe into the interrelationship of various economic factors. Economic activities have been a major concern of human beings, from the time of their evolution. Economics is a dynamic science. In the past few decades GDP growth in India has taken place largely due to innovation and technology. New and latest methods of production, consumption and distribution laws can be brought to limelight thereby economically strengthening the nation at large.

Through research, new knowledge can be added to the existing one by way of empirical testing such that the knowledge of the discipline serves the needs of government agencies, firms, financial Institutions and developmental organizations.
PhD in Economics is offered in the Central Campus, BGR Campus, Yeshwantpur Campus, NCR Delhi Campus and Pune Lavasa Campus.

 

 

 

 
 

The postgraduate course in Applied Economics is the flagship programme of the department of economics with intensive specialisations in areas of finance and development. The uniqueness of the programme is the judicious blend of economic theory accounting for interdisciplinarity and empirical measurement tools.  Industrial exposure through internships and visits, mastery in scientific analysis through advanced quantitative methods, statistics, econometrics along with engagements in theory such as in Gender Economics,

 Ethics and Economics, Agricultural Economics and so on and latest soft skills make students competent to take up the most challenging careers in business, industry, public sector and advanced academic research. The programme spanning four semesters intends to impart the necessary skills and capabilities to meet the challenges of the everchanging vibrant economic environment.

 

 

 

The MA Economics programme aims to form students with deep knowledge of economic theory and skill in empirical methodology to form ethically well-grounded students with ability for incisive reasoning. The programme seeks to strike a sound balance between theory and application along with an interdisciplinary dimension without diminishing the focus on Economics. This approach is meant to help students face the dynamic challenges in terms of academics and the market. In line with this approach the programme has a combination of courses related to economic theory, methodology and two streams of specialisations which, on the one hand meet the needs of corporate employment and on the other create the ability of applying economic theory to development problems of the country. More specifically students will be equipped to take up careers in academics, business consulting and analytics, civil society and activist organisations, the public sector and international civil services.

Morning : 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM    Evening : 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

 

The programme is offered trimester-wise with thirteen core courses and seven open electives. Each course will earn four credits. Core and elective courses will be offered in a staggered manner and will have to be completed within the maximum duration of the programme.

The double major program in Sociology, and Economics is a dynamic and innovative educational opportunity that combines the strengths of three distinct disciplines, offering students a comprehensive and holistic understanding of human behaviour, social dynamics, and economic systems. These two interlinked disciplines have their own exclusive areas of expertise with conceptual and methodological specialisations which helps the student to have a clear understanding with regard to their possibilities. This program optimises the advantages of the two allied disciplines of Sociology, and Economics, theoretically and it offers to the students an opportunity to understand social phenomena holistically. Special attention is given in its design to develop critical thinking and creative faculties of the students and thereby promote responsible citizenship.

Sociology delves into the study of society and human interaction. This major examines social structures, cultural diversity, social inequalities, and how societies evolve over time. Students learn to analyse and address social issues, fostering an understanding of the complex web of relationships that shape our world. Graduates often pursue careers in social work, public policy, and advocacy, where they apply their knowledge to effect positive change.
 

 

Economics, the study of resource allocation, equips students with a keen understanding of the global economic landscape. They explore microeconomics, macroeconomics, and economic policy, gaining skills in quantitative analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making. Graduates are prepared for diverse careers in finance, business, government, or academia, contributing to economic growth and development.

This double major program is designed to foster a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, as it addresses real-world issues that require expertise in sociology, and economics. Students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills that are highly sought after in a variety of professional fields. The program is characterised by a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical applications, and opportunities for research and internships. It encourages critical thinking and enables students to understand the intricate connections between individuals, societies, and economic forces.

At the end of the course graduates would be awarded with a Bachelor of Arts Sociology, Economics degree.

 

 
 

The combined Psychology and Economics Program offers students a comprehensive and integrated approach to understanding these two disciplines, equipping them with specialized knowledge in both conceptual and methodological aspects. This unique program not only fosters a deep understanding of Economics and Psychology but also allows students to

maintain the distinct identities of these disciplines. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded an Undergraduate Degree in Economics and Psychology, with the possibility to pursue Honors and Research in either field, providing them with clear and promising career prospects in both Psychology and Economics.

 

 

 

 

 
 

The Bachelor of Science programme in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics with Econometrics Honors/Honors with Research is an interdisciplinary programme offered jointly by the School of sciences and School of social sciences. This programme is uniquely designed for students who are interested in studying Economics with a solid understanding of quantitative methods derived from Mathematics and Statistics. The courses in Mathematics and Statistics 

offered are aimed at providing an excellent foundation for the quantitative study of Economics. After the successful completion of the three-year degree programme, the students have the option to do an honors programme/honors programme with research in econometrics or pursue graduate studies in economics, finance, actuarial science, data science, statistics, mathematics and related subjects.
