A practical guide for university life
Student Wellbeing Companion
University life brings change, opportunity, pressure, relationships, uncertainty, and growth. The Student Wellbeing Companion is a two-volume practical guide that helps students understand these experiences, care for their well-being, support one another, and recognise when additional help may be needed.
One companion, two complementary volumes
Begin with what feels most relevant
The two volumes follow the wider journey of university life. Volume I focuses on arriving, adjusting, belonging, relationships, safety, and everyday health. Volume II turns to thoughts and emotions, academic life, motivation, campus balance, and preparation for what comes next. Students may read the volumes in sequence or begin with the concerns most relevant to them.

How it was developed
Grounded in student life
The Student Wellbeing Companion was developed under the leadership of the School of Psychological Sciences at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), with contributions from the Centre for Counselling and Health Services and experienced academic reviewers. It brings together psychological knowledge, counselling experience, educational insight, and an understanding of the realities of contemporary university life.
Organised across seven interconnected domains, the two-volume companion addresses personal adjustment, relationships, physical and emotional wellbeing, academic life, campus engagement, and preparation for the future. Each chapter translates psychological understanding into practical strategies, guided reflections, peer-support guidance, help-seeking cues, and carefully selected additional resources.
Informed by consultations with university students, the companion responds to concerns and experiences that commonly arise during higher education. It is intended to serve as a credible and accessible resource that students can return to throughout their university journey, whether they are seeking greater self-understanding, navigating a challenge, supporting a peer, or considering professional help.
Using the companion
This companion is not a clinical manual and does not replace counselling, medical care, crisis support, or professional help. It is an accessible student-facing guide for reflection, everyday action, peer support, and timely help-seeking. Students may read it gradually, return to particular chapters when needed, or use it to support a friend more wisely.
