Dr Joydeep Bagchi is a distinguished astrophysicist and science educator. He holds a PhD in Radio Astronomy from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research focuses on galaxy clusters and high energy astrophysical processes. He studied synchrotron emissions from black holes and relativistic jets. His work also examines X-ray and radio emissions from non thermal plasma. He has worked at ISRO Space Applications Center and NCRA Pune. He also served at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. He was a faculty member at IUCAA Pune from 1998 to 2020. He guided PhD scholars and established a Radio Physics Laboratory. He trained numerous science and engineering students through practical methods. He discovered giant shock waves in merging galaxy clusters. He led the team discovering the Saraswati supercluster in 2017. This work received Astronomical Society of India recognition in 2018. He has published extensively and serves on journal editorial boards. He joined CHRIST University as Senior Professor in 2021. He works on ultra massive galaxies and large scale jet simulations. He mentors doctoral scholars and develops advanced astronomy laboratories.
