Dr Anna Varghese specializes in ancient and medieval historical studies. She holds a doctorate in Ancient History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research interests include social history, religion, and gender history. She has expertise in epigraphy and medieval regional historical studies. Dr Varghese has authored papers on social history and state systems. Her work examines temple functionaries in medieval Kerala contexts. She studies gender, religion, and the history of craftsmen communities. She received Best Paper Awards twice at the Indian History Congress. She is affiliated with leading international history research associations. These include the Asian Association of World Historians. She is also a member of the International Society for Regional History. Since 2020, she has been associated with CHRIST University, Bangalore. She initially served at Bannerghatta Road Campus before Central Campus. From June 2024, she continues her role at Bangalore Central Campus. She teaches courses on ancient history and gendered historical perspectives. Her teaching includes Southeast Asia and postcolonial historical developments. She also supervises doctoral research in related academic disciplines.
