SDG Integrated Curriculum and Outreach
Vision of student heads
As the Heads of the SDG Cell, we see sustainability being practiced regularly in our department rather than being a mere topic of classroom discussion. We aim to develop a community where our students are aware of social and environmental issues, think critically about them and take the initiative to make a difference.
The purpose of our mission is to develop opportunities for students to interact with the Sustainable Development Goals through hands-on projects, awareness building, community outreach and collaboration across disciplines. We're convinced that sustainability is everybody's duty and that diverse voices are the ones that make the job easier, better and more complete.
We already embody this ethos in the Department of Liberal Arts - our interdisciplinary curriculum, meeting and event planning that is intentionally sustainable, our culture of creative reuse, our community-based projects, and more, all demonstrate sustainability in practice. Sustainable thinking is woven into the fabric of every aspect of what we do, from events to classroom discussions. The SDG Cell works on building this solid ground and aims to create lasting and meaningful change, through consistent and small actions.

Lake clean up drive
The lake beautification drive is conceived as an environmental intervention focusing on education, participation, and restoration. The lake beautification drive at Gottigere Lake, translates this learning into action. It brought students together to remove waste and litter near the lake, helping restore the cleanliness and health of the surrounding environment. The initiative was undertaken to address pollution, promote responsible waste disposal, and encourage collective action towards protecting shared public spaces. Through active participation, students experienced the importance of environmental stewardship and contributed to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community.  This initiative reflects the belief that sustainable futures depend not only on policy and research but also on informed citizen participation and community-led conservation practices. Through this event, Liberati aims to cultivate environmental stewardship, encourage youth-led climate action, and reinforce the importance of sustainable urban development in alignment with national and global sustainability goals.

Winter Clothes Drive
The Winter Clothes Drive reflects the Liberal Arts program’s commitment to experiential learning, compassion, and community engagement beyond the classroom. The initiative addressed the need for warm clothing among individuals and communities during the colder months by collecting and redistributing usable winter garments. It also promoted the responsible reuse of clothing, helping reduce textile waste and encouraging sustainable consumption. Through collective participation, the drive transformed individual contributions into meaningful support, enabling students to address a pressing social need and help build a warmer, more compassionate, and socially responsible community.

Menstrual Cup Drive
The menstrual cup donation drive focused on promoting menstrual health, sustainability, and informed menstrual-care practices among the akkas. Through the donation of reusable menstrual cups, the initiative highlighted their potential to reduce dependence on disposable menstrual products and minimize menstrual waste. It also created an opportunity to raise awareness of the benefits, use, and care of menstrual cups, encouraging informed, sustainable choices while supporting menstrual dignity and well-being.

Green Curriculum
The green curriculum integrates sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals into the department’s academic framework. Each semester, one subject focuses on a specific SDG, enabling students to examine global and local challenges through an interdisciplinary approach. This academic engagement connects classroom learning with the practical implementation of the SDGs and helps students develop the knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills required to address issues such as inequality, environmental sustainability, responsible consumption, and inclusive development.

Reap Benefits
The department collaborates with Reap Benefits to provide students with classes centred on real-world problems and solution-oriented learning. These sessions encourage students to identify social and environmental challenges, understand their underlying causes, and develop practical, sustainable responses. By connecting academic concepts with community-based problem-solving, the collaboration strengthens experiential learning and equips students with the skills to think critically, work collaboratively, and contribute to meaningful change.

Department logo
The Department Logo was created using e-waste, combining creative expression with environmental responsibility. Workshops were conducted to introduce students to the concept, process, and possibilities of upcycling discarded electronic materials. Through these sessions, students actively contributed to the development of the logo and participated in transforming e-waste into a meaningful representation of the department. The initiative encouraged student involvement, promoted awareness about responsible e-waste management, and demonstrated how sustainability can be integrated into design and institutional identity.

Student made badges
The Student-Made Badges initiative combines creativity, student participation, and environmental responsibility. Designed and created by students using sustainable and eco-friendly materials, the badges provide a meaningful way to express the department’s values, initiatives, and shared identity. The initiative encourages students to explore environmentally responsible alternatives in design and production while developing their creative and collaborative skills. By replacing conventional materials with sustainable options, the badges promote conscious consumption and demonstrate how everyday departmental activities can support a more sustainable campus culture.
