Overview

History

The Centre for Quantum Technologies and Complex Systems (CQTCS) was born out of the vision of Dr. Mithun Thudiyangal guided by the leadership of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Joseph CC. The Centre for Quantum Technologies and Complex Systems (CQTCS) was established under the school of sciences as a research centre with the office order number CU:OR:Notification:07:25 on 3rd July 2025. The centre was formally inaugurated by Dr Subir Sachdev, Herschel Smith professor of Physics at Harvard University, USA. Later the center is upgraded to the first University Level Academic and Research Centre of Christ University with the office order number CU:OR:OM: 03/26 dated 09th March 2026.

 

Milestone

 

  • March 2025 - Initial idea of the centre has been discussed with Dr. Bincy Cyriac and respected Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Joseph CC by Dr. Mithun Thudiyangal
  • April 2025 - Proposal of the centre has been submitted to the respected Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Joseph CC by Dr. Mithun Thudiyangal.
  • July 2025 - Established as a research centre under the School of Science with the office order CU:OR:Notification:07:25 and Dr. Mithun Thudiyangal has been appointed as the founding Coordinator and group leader of the centre.
  • August 2025 - Scientific Advisory Board of the centre is formed with leading scientists from across the globe.
  • August 2025 - Internal Advisory Board is formed with members Dr. Fr. Joseph CC, Dr. Johnny Joseph and Dr. Deepthi Das
  • December 2025 - Dr. Basudeb Sain, Dr. Sreeja CS and Dr. Arindam Mallick joined as other Group leaders of the Centre through expression of Interest.
  • December 2025 - Inaugurated the centre by Dr Subir Sachdev, Herschel Smith professor of Physics at Harvard University, USA.
  • January 2026- First student joined for the PhD program in Physics
  • March 2026 - Upgraded to the first independent University Level Academic and Research Centre of Christ University with the office order number CU:OR:OM: 03/26
  • May 2026 - The first recruitment of the centre has been concluded and Dr. Ranjith Kumar KM joined as the fifth Group leader of the Centre.
  • June 2026 - First Academic program of the centre, the certificate course on emerging quantum technologies, has begun.
  • July 2026 - First Physical Review Letter paper from the centre is published.
  • July 2026 - MSc in Quantum technologies is introduced

 

Goal of the centre

 

The Center for Quantum Technologies and Complex Systems (CQTCS) aims to establish an international level world-leading research centre dedicated to advancing foundational and applied research in quantum science, engineering, and complex systems dynamics. This centre will train the next generation of physicists and interdisciplinary researchers, and provide support for innovation in quantum technologies and complex systems. Additionally, this centre will foster international collaborations and partnerships.
