Introduction

The Cultural Studies Cell (CSC) established in 2020 is an inter-disciplinary cell for practice-based research in the Arts and Humanities. It attempts to bridge the gap between theory and practice through research that actively engages with public institutions, cultural policy and civil society.  It aspires to engage with communities outside the formal university education system and extend the impact of research. The CSC will be in incubation mode for a year, during which time its scope and activities will be developed under the guidance of an Advisory Committee, appointed by the Registrar.

Objective

  • Establish CHRIST University as a leading site for practice-based research in the Arts and Humanities.
  • Support inter-disciplinary doctoral, postdoctoral and independent research projects and build a vibrant intellectual environment.
  • Extend the impact of research beyond academia through public events workshops, and exhibitions, and short-term certificate courses.
  • Develop a strong academic network with universities and research institutions across South and East Asia.
  • Leverage and contribute to developing the cultural ecosystem in the country, through projects situated in live sites and public institutions.
  • Provide necessary support to the MA and PhD programmes in Cultural Studies.

Members

Faculty from across different Schools and Departments as well as Cultural Studies PhD scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and research fellows may be affiliate members of the CSC.
