The Department of Media Studies is an established academic discipline. The department of media studies contributes to deep research in media arts practices. PhD in media studies seeks to nurture the students of artist scholars and assist them as they seek to define new art and research practices of the 21st century. The department of media studies is committed to supporting excellence and originality in research. The Ph.D course helps the researcher to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of media through theoretical, historical and critical framework in ordered to contribute for the welfare of publics.    

 

 
 

The Master’s Programme in Media and Communication Studies, with specializations in Advertising & Corporate Communication and Design Thinking & Content Strategy, is meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience that bridges theory and practice. By integrating theoretical frameworks, professional training, and applied learning, the programme equips students with the critical thinking skills, creative abilities, and strategic insights needed to navigate and excel in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

In the Advertising & Corporate Communication specialization, students explore the principles and practices of persuasive communication, branding, public relations, crisis management, and strategic media planning. This specialization focuses on the art and science of building effective communication campaigns for diverse audiences, enhancing corporate reputation, and fostering stakeholder engagement. Through case studies, real-world projects, and industry internships, students gain firsthand experience in crafting compelling messages and managing communication strategies for businesses, NGOs, and public institutions.

The Design & Content Strategy specialization, on the other hand, emphasizes the creative and technical aspects of media production, digital storytelling, and content management. Students delve into multimedia design, user experience (UX), visual communication, and digital content strategy, learning to create engaging and impactful content across various platforms.

The curriculum fosters innovation by combining design thinking principles with strategic content planning, preparing students to meet the demands of digital media environments, from social media campaigns to interactive media projects.

Both specializations are supported by a rigorous curriculum that encourages critical analysis, creative problem-solving, and strategic decision-making. The programme integrates interdisciplinary approaches, drawing from fields such as media theory, sociology, psychology, and business, to offer a well-rounded perspective on media and communication. Throughout the program, students will cultivate expertise in storytelling, photography, broadcast media, multimedia production, editing, advertising, digital media, public relations, and Psychology disciplines. Starting with the foundations of Psychology, students will be studying personality, Brain behaviour, Cognitive processes, Developmental stages and diverse electives to achieve specialization within the graduate programme. The programme aims to foster critical thinking, enabling students to analyze, create, and disseminate Media content and psychological concepts across many platforms. Students will emerge prepared to navigate the multifaceted realms of media and Psychology while equipped with the technical skills and

analytical prowess necessary for success in this ever-evolving field. In today's rapidly evolving media landscape, staying relevant and competitive requires a nimble approach to learning. The media industry is continuously transforming, heavily influenced by technological advancements and shifting consumer behaviors. Proficiency in multimedia storytelling, data analytics, and audience engagement strategies is paramount. Moreover, a firm grasp of emerging technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and immersive media, will be increasingly crucial. Currently, the field of journalism is experiencing a shift towards digital platforms such as the internet, mobile devices, data journalism and other emerging technologies. This change is leading to a transformation in how journalism is practiced and necessitating the development of new skills, techniques, and approaches by practitioners. As a result, contemporary journalists must fulfill a variety of roles, requiring not only a solid grasp of emerging social trends but also specialized expertise and knowledge. By enrolling in this programme, aspiring digital journalists will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with journalism in the Digital Age, which will prepare them to succeed in the rapidly-evolving media industry. During the first and second semesters, the focus is on helping students understand the role of Journalism within the broader context of social sciences such as political science, economics, and sociology. 
They will receive training in writing and develop their skills in reporting and editing to be successful in the field of written communication. In the third semester students are introduced to the nuances of the constitution and politics. Special emphasis is given in the fourth semester to the field of multimedia production, on-field experience and also the first hand understanding of social issues through service learning. The third year provides the budding journalist with the knowledge of digital journalism, media research and so on. In the final year, students will expose themselves to media psychology, solutions journalism and environmental journalism along with independent research projects.

Practical elements such as lab journals, workshops, seminars, campaigns, or news productions are incorporated to support each paper. Additionally, students will be required to gain skills in editing software. The Journalism & Digital Media programme includes sixteen core papers that cover a diverse range of topics in the field of journalism. There are skill enhancement courses related to writing and reporting. Starting from the sixth semester, students will have the opportunity to choose three electives to specialize in. In order to gain practical experience, an internship is mandatory for students at the end of the second semester. The theory courses aim to provide students with a broad understanding of the field, while the practical and skill-based courses will equip them for the job. Having a comprehensive knowledge of various subjects helps journalists gain perspective and write intelligently in the proper context for the general readership. The Department of Media Studies will leverage the expertise of professionals from different fields to provide students with the best possible exposure. Experienced journalists will also be invited to participate in events like "Feel the Beat" to 
share their knowledge and expertise. Students of journalism will be expected to regularly produce lab journals and from the fourth semester onwards, they will be responsible for creating a newspaper, television news bulletin, and digital publication.
