Green Army, in association with the Department of Life Sciences, organized a guest lecture on "Ecology of Frogs" on Feb 1, 2020. The event was held in the Panel Room, Block II, Main Campus, CHRIST (Deemed to Be University). The speaker, Dr Gururaja K V, Chief Scientist at Gubbi Labs and faculty member at Srishti Institute of Arts, Design & Technology, who has over 20 years’ experience in the world of amphibian ecology graced the occasion. He presented excerpts of his work and discoveries, including data from his PhD thesis "Effect of Habitat Fragmentation on Distribution and Ecology of Anurans in Some Parts of Central Western Ghats". He also shared anecdotes from his time in the field and answered several queries about the relevance of amphibians to the ecosystem. Stressing on the importance of habitat conservation. He encouraged students to take up the initiative to raise public awareness and bring about ideas that would help protect India's diverse amphibian population, 80% of which is at risk of extinction. The session was lively and interactive, and helped generate interest towards the often misconceptualized field of batrachology.
