PyConnect – Connect. Learn. Code. Lead. is a student-led interdisciplinary peer-learning initiative of the Department of Statistics and Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, supported by the Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAI). Launched in 2024, the initiative provides structured introductory Python training to second-year undergraduate students from diverse science disciplines. Through peer-led learning, students develop foundational programming, computational thinking, data handling, and problem-solving skills, with Python concepts contextualised to their respective disciplines, including biological data in Life Sciences, numerical and computational problems in Physics, scientific data and visualisation in Chemistry, and computational problem-solving in Mathematics.
PyConnect also creates valuable leadership and mentoring opportunities for student mentors from the Department, enabling them to strengthen their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and facilitation skills while supporting their peers. By extending computational learning beyond conventional disciplinary boundaries, the initiative supports students in applying data-driven approaches to academics, research, and future careers. Building on its successful two cycles, PyConnect is also expanding its reach beyond the University through student-led outreach and service activities, broadening access to computational and data skills.
