Research

The department builds a strong research focus in students across all its programmes. Faculty publish on current topics in psychology using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods, and several projects are funded by national agencies (DST, ICSSR) and an international one (USIEF). Its laboratories support behavioural and neurocognitive research and apply advanced methods to improve outcomes in clinical and non-clinical settings. Equipment includes:

  • A 64-channel EGI EEG acquisition system
  • EPrime for building cognitive experiments
  • A psychophysiological monitoring and biofeedback system
  • The Brain Master Discovery 24E neurofeedback system
  • The Eyelink 1000 Plus eye tracker from SR Research
  • Behaviour labs running social games on networked computers

Faculty also run field-based clinical, counselling and action-research projects, including work on well-being among people with HIV at Snehagram and on early childhood development and growth at Christ School. Undergraduate and postgraduate students take part in research as their curriculum requires, and interested students can join faculty-led collaborative projects for hands-on experience.

Research Thrust Areas

The School of Psychological Sciences has identified five research thrust areas to focus its scholarly work, strengthen collaboration and improve its visibility in institutional and national research priorities. The areas were identified through collective consensus among the faculty and provisionally finalised after a three-hour deliberation at the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) on 12 March 2026.
