SIGNALS - The EEG Workshop
Event Overview and Objectives: The School of Psychological Sciences at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Central Campus, Bengaluru, hosted "SIGNALS - The EEG Workshop" from June 12–14, 2025. Organized by the NeuroCognition Laboratory in collaboration with Magstim EGI and Hospimedica International Ltd., this three-day intensive workshop aimed to build technical and analytical capacity for early-career researchers, faculty, and students across psychology, engineering, and medicine. Inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Fr. Dr. Jose CC, the event set out to bridge the gap between theoretical neurophysiology and applied, hands-on brain signal processing.
Workshop Curriculum and Hands-On Training: The workshop offered a comprehensive progression through the full electrophysiological research pipeline. Day one covered foundational neurophysiology, hardware setups, ERP experiment design, and live acquisition demonstrations using Magstim EGI systems. Day two expanded into advanced applications—such as sleep polysomnography, non-invasive brain stimulation (TMS/tDCS), high-density EEG source estimation using LORETA-Key, and spectral analysis in EEGLAB. On the final day, participants explored cognitive brain-machine interfaces, neural oscillations, working memory dynamics, and practical MATLAB-based ERP waveform extraction and scalp mapping.
Expert Leadership and Academic Impact: An esteemed panel of experts led the sessions, including Dr. Madhavi Rangaswamy from CHRIST University, alongside key researchers from NIMHANS and IISc such as Dr. Suhas Vinchurkar, Dr. Ajay Kumar Nair, Dr. Arun Sasidharan, Dr. Anushree Bose, Dr. Sridharan Devarajan, and Dr. Rahul Venugopal. Guided by these specialists and supported by doctoral scholars, attendees directly engaged in mentored task design and signal analysis. The workshop concluded with exceptional feedback—earning an overall learning experience rating of 4.5 out of 5—and successfully fostered new inter-institutional research collaborations across cognitive neuroscience disciplines.
Minds, Molecules, and Motion: An Integrative Workshop on Behavioural Neurochemistry
The School of Psychological Sciences and the Department of Life Sciences at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Central Campus, successfully organized a three-day hands-on training workshop titled "Minds, Molecules, and Motion: An Integrative Workshop on Behavioural Neurochemistry" from February 3–5, 2026. The intensive program brought together 27 participants—including students, faculty, and research scholars—to explore neurochemical and behavioral paradigms through zebrafish-based neuroscience training. Guided by faculty experts and guest speakers, the workshop bridged core concepts in behavioral biology with practical, hands-on lab techniques.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a progressive curriculum blending theoretical foundations with laboratory applications. Day 1 focused on animal behavioral models, cognitive task apparatus, and AnyMaze software, concluding with guided zebrafish brain dissections. Day 2 provided practical experience in protein extraction, sample preparation, and Bradford assay quantification. The final day featured guest lectures on comparative neuroanatomy and neurodegenerative diseases—such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's—alongside hands-on protein separation using SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis.
Feedback analysis revealed overwhelmingly positive participant satisfaction, with 92% of respondents expressing interest in attending future training sessions. Attendees praised the quality of the hands-on learning experience and professional knowledge dissemination while offering constructive insights on pacing, time allocation, and expanding cognitive psychology integrations for non-life-science backgrounds. Overall, the event served as a high-impact interdisciplinary initiative, fostering deep engagement at the intersection of psychology and neurobiology.
