Creating Hope and Meaningful Partnerships
At the Department of Commerce, we believe true education goes beyond academic
excellence. It is about shaping responsible, empathetic, and innovative citizens prepared to meet the challenges of a globalised world. Guided by this vision, we developed CHAMPS, a Service-Learning Program that integrates academic knowledge with meaningful community engagement.
CHAMPS: A transformative learning framework Launched in 2023, CHAMPS (Creating Hope and Meaningful Partnerships) is a transformative framework that connects classroom learning with real-world challenges.
Students:
• Engage with diverse communities – from schools and street vendors to sustainability industries, domestic workers, and municipal waste workers.
• Address pressing issues across economic empowerment, social inclusion, education, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.
• Reflect, document, and showcase their learning through digital platforms, videos, and community testimonials.
Our Approach: The CREATE Model
At CHAMPS, learning is not limited to theory but anchored in experiential engagement through the CREATE Model:
C – Connect: Link classroom learning with real-world needs by engaging with NGOs, schools, civic bodies, and communities.
R– Reflect: Work with community partners to assess needs, foster empathy, and co-create solutions.
E – Establish: Design structured project plans with clear goals and a minimum of 30 hours of active engagement.
A – Act: Implement meaningful projects — from teaching and financial literacy workshops to sustainability initiatives and livelihood support.
T – Transform: Experience mutual growth as students and communities exchange knowledge, skills, and perspectives.
E – Evaluate & Exhibit: Measure impact through reports, reflections, and Service-Learning Day showcases, creating a cycle of continuous learning.
