The programme Bachelor of Arts (English with Digital Humanities) integrates the department’s strengths in literary, linguistic, and cultural studies with digital methodologies, fostering a forward-thinking curriculum that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. By embedding
Digital Humanities as a core minor, the programme equips students with critical humanistic insights and computational skills, addressing industry needs, academic developments and student aspirations. The humanities are undergoing a transformative shift globally, with Digital Humanities emerging as a vital interdisciplinary field. To refashion the existing BA English (Honours/Honours with Research) programme, reimagining the Department of English and Cultural Studies’ curriculum to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving academic and professional landscape becomes crucial. DH integrates computational methods such as text mining, topic modelling, and geospatial analysis with traditional literary and cultural studies, enabling novel approaches to research and interpretation. The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises multidisciplinary learning,
digital literacy and skill-based education, aligning with DH’s focus on blending technology with humanities. By replacing the traditional BA English (Honours) with a DH-focused programme, Christ University can position itself as a pioneer in Indian higher education, fostering innovative scholarship that complements the department’s existing interdisciplinary courses.
