Centre for Indian and Foreign Languages

×

Overview

Languages offer immense benefits in various aspects of life, particularly in today’s globalised world, where geographical boundaries are becoming increasingly insignificant. It is therefore no surprise that proficiency in foreign languages plays a vital role in study abroad programmes, career advancement, travel, and intercultural exploration. Language skills also help expand one’s professional and social networks by enabling meaningful connections with people across the world.

The University Placement Office regularly receives opportunities from reputed companies in areas such as content writing, editing, translation, and interpretation. Attaining a B1 level proficiency in any foreign language can also open avenues for scholarships, higher studies in foreign universities, and positions as language assistants abroad. In an increasingly interconnected world, the study of foreign languages has become essential for effective communication, cultural understanding, and personal growth.

The Centre for Indian and Foreign Languages (CIFL) was established in line with the University’s policy of promoting language learning and multilingual competence. Since September 2021, CIFL has also been offering a Beginner’s Course in Hindi to students of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

The following foreign languages are offered by CIFL as value-added courses in association with Alliance Française, Institute for Spanish Studies, Goethe Institut, Max Mueller Bhavan and IN-SARA Consulting Pvt. Ltd Bangalore for Japanese. Aligned with the first level of proficiency in the six-level Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the courses are conducted over two semesters, A1.1 and A1.2, comprising 55–60 hours each. The sessions are scheduled from July to October and November to March. Under the National Education Policy (NEP), students are eligible to earn academic credits for these courses and may also appear for international certification examinations upon successful completion of the 110–120-hour programmes
