The Department of Commerce, the oldest and largest department of the University, believes in developing and nurturing global competencies in students through quality education, research and continuous innovation. It provides a proficient environment to nurture commerce professionals with a high level of knowledge and competence to effectively contribute to society with commitment and integrity. The Department offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programmes in Commerce.The Christ University Commerce Association (CUCA) provides platforms to kindle innovation, nurture skills and build leaders through various Commerce and cultural activities.

The department also provides value added professional programmes and certifications through recognised global bodies such as Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), USA, Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), UK and Insurance Institute of India (III). In recognition of excellence in the provision of higher education in the fields of financial services. Christ was awarded the ‘CISI centre of Excellence Accreditation’, by CISI. Christ is by far, the only university outside the UK to be conferred with this status.With a student strength of over 2500, the department ranks second in India and the first in Bengaluru for Commerce education (The India Today- Nielsen Survey 2017).

The department offers undergraduate courses like BCom, BCom (Honours), BCom (Strategic Finance Honours), Masters Programme in Commerce, Master in Philosophy and Doctorate of Philosophy. It also provides value added professional programmes and certificates through recognised global bodies such as Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), USA, Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), UK and Insurance Institute of India (III). The Bachelor of Commerce programme's objective is to develop graduates who exemplify the graduate attributes of CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The programme aims to equip students with necessary knowledge, skills and other attributes so as to prepare them for participating in any modern business environment, practice in any commercial profession and to pursue further academic endeavours. Graduates of this degree will be able to demonstrate their skills in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Investments, Banking, Insurance, Marketing, Human resource management and  Organizational Behavior along with the knowledge of quantitative techniques and other major theories of Economics associated with these subjects. The graduates will be able to demonstrate their communication and literary skills in English and other Indian languages.  The Curricular and Extracurricular activities are designed in a way so as to provide for Holistic development of an individual.

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) programme at CHRIST, develops business graduates who understand their responsibilities as global and national citizens; and as leaders in economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability and well-being. The programme aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes  needed to excel in the globalized modern business environment or further academic pursuits. .

Honoursprogramme Graduates will be able to demonstrate their skills in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Investments, Banking, Insurance, Marketing, Human Resources and Information systems.   Apart from understanding the concepts and theories in detail, they will also be able to apply them using various quantitative and problem solving techniques. Graduates will also acquire advanced knowledge in at least two specialized subject areas viz. Finance and Investments or Banking and Insurance. The programme also enables graduates to acquire professional qualification through globally eminent bodies like Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Institute of Management Accountants and Insurance Institute of India. The Curricular and Extracurricular activities are designed in a way so as to provide for Holistic development of an individual.

The MCom programme is intended to develop teaching and research talent in students and to create academic expertise suiting to contemporary needs of the society. The graduates of MCom are offered a rich exposure to the various dimensions of Business Research through the programmes’sinnovative features like papers by research, industry internship, research article publicationand teaching practicein undergraduate classes under the supervision of faculty mentors. The third and fourth semesters offer electives in Accounting & Taxation and Banking & Insurance thereby enabling the graduates to excel in the respective branches of Commerce. The value added activities such as Current Affairs sessions and Research Club sessions nurture the graduates with contemporary knowledge and research skills.
