Mandatory Certificate Program for Non-Science Students (2015-16)
Computer and Hardware Fundamentals (45 hrs)


UNIT I: Introduction to Analog Electronics (8 hours)

Electronics  and  its application , active and passive components, applications semi conductor diodes and application, Transistor and applications, transformers , power supply , measuring instruments -multi-metes, CRO, LEDs and seven segment displays, photo transistors

   
UNIT II: Introduction to Digital Electronics (7 hours)

Number systems, logic gates- basic and universal gates, adder and sub tractor , encoder and decoders, multiplexers and de multiplexers, flip flops, registers and counters
ICs, types of ICs, classification, logic families                

UNIT III: Computer Hardware (15 hours)

Fundamentals of PC, microprocessors, memory, motherboards, power supply, SMPS, floppy disc drive, hard disc drive, DVD ROM /CD writer, mouse, keyboard, Modems, sound card, scanners, I/O Ports and devices, monitors, printers,  laptops, notebook

UNIT IV: PC Assembling and Disassembling (15 hours)

PC regular maintenance and troubleshooting, operating systems and application software    
Basics, installation of windows OS, Linux, Microsoft office products
Introduction to programming languages, Basic concepts of networking and trouble shooting.

Assessment methods for Certificate Programs:
Internal assessment- Assignment/presentation   and attendance
Mid SEM exam – written type 50 marks.
End SEM Exam- written type 100 marks.
