Objective of the Programme:
The courses for the PCM programme emphasizes on making the students understand the structural and functional basis of the universe. The programme leads the students to higher learning in physical, mathematical and chemical sciences and contribute to the welfare of the society. It is designed to help the students to understand the importance of chemicals, chemical industries and the role of these in improving the quality of human life. It also helps the students to recognize and appreciate the contribution of great scientists in the field of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
The department of physics provides high quality physics education, producing well prepared BSc graduates who are confident in their abilities and understanding of physics. It also promotes research and creative activities ofstudents by providing exposure to the realm of physical science and technical expertise. The BSc programme in physics is designed to provide a thorough basic knowledge in physics at the under graduate level. Apart from the general topics in physics, many of the new topics included in the syllabus keeps the students abreast with the latest developments taking place in the field. Also the experiments chosen for each practical course is such that they bring out the concept of application of the theory in a practical situation. It also helps in creative thinking and self-learning.
The Department of Chemistry at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) aims at developing young talent for the chemical industry and builds in them other strengths such that they are able to venture into allied fields too. The aim of the department through the courses it offers is to provide “a cut above the rest” man-power to the ever growing demands of the industry and to prepare students for higher studies and research. The interactive method of teaching at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is to bring about attitudinal changes to future professionals of the industry.
Equal importance is given to practical and theoretical methods of learning. Industrial projects are integral part of the curriculum. Apart from the syllabus, the University emphasizes on Value Addition Programs like Current Affairs, Holistic Education, Certificate Courses and Placement Training Programs, which include training students in group discussions, facing interviews and so on.
The undergraduate course in Mathematics is designed to enable the students to lay a strong foundation in various fields of Mathematics. The course enables the students to develop a respectable intellectual level seeking to expose the various concepts in Mathematics. It also aims at enhancing the students reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills. The first four semesters are devoted to appreciate the beauty of mathematics through Introductory Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations and Calculus of several variables. In order to help the students in exploration of mathematical concepts through activities and exploration, FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) tools like SCILAB and MAXIMA are introduced.Students find better perceptions of the classical papers like Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra and Real and Complex Analysis in final year. Numerical Analysis, Fourier series and Integral Transforms papers help the students to envisage an in depth knowledge of various numerical methods and integral transforms required in Scientific and Technological Applications.
Scope of the BSc course (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
This course enables the Students to take up advanced studies in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics can find opportunities in
a) i) M.Sc in the respective disciplines
ii) Many interdisciplinary post-graduate courses like M.Tech, M.Sc and M.C.A and Ph.D degree in many prestigious institutions all over India and abroad.
iii) Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Applications.
b) i) Teaching in schools & colleges where any of the science subjects is a discipline
ii) Indian Administrative Services and other state and central Govt. Services where knowledge of science subjects is a definite advantage especially at the entrance examinations.
iii) In C.A /ICWA/GRE/GMAT etc. leading to very rewarding and self-satisfactory careers.
iv) Careers in Science and Technology and Management where a high level of competence and dependence on many of the science subjects is demanded.
