Advanced Biotechnology (Optional)
Although Biotechnology as a discipline is relatively new in the field of Sciences, human beings were practicing it since ages. This includes production of vinegar, alcoholic beverages, yogurt, cheese and many more. Essentially Biotechnology is an amalgamation of biology and technology. The certificate course in Advanced Biotechnology aims at giving an exposure to the newer techniques in this field which is not practically feasible to be covered in an exhaustive manner in the syllabus of Biotechnology course for the degree level students. This course targets exceptionally advanced learners in the area of Life Sciences and is aimed at giving exposure to the latest tools and techniques which will become handy in private companies and research labs. Techniques such as PCR, DNA chips, Site directed mutagenesis, DNA Fingerprinting, ELISA, Real time PCR etc would be dealt with in detail. The understanding and application of biotechnology adds great value to different aspects of day to day life. Biotechnology can be used as an effective tool for food production, food storing, environmental conservation and preservation, development of life saving drugs and vaccines etc and many more. It involves production of newer and viable products or developing older products into cheaper and more effective forms. The ultimate objective of the course is to boost the confidence of the students in this upcoming field of Biotechnology.
