Research Activities

1.    CDI- Incubation Cell
Entrepreneur skills have to be developed when they are young. Entrepreneurship development and mentoring is one of the requirements for creating new opportunities and jobs and making the students more technically competent to face the industrial requirements. To cater to this, the Department Of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Christ University houses an incubation cell. Nurturing young talents and their ideas is the main objective of the incubation cell. Students who want to pursue their idea into a product/business are given the opportunity to do so through the incubation cell.
The incubation cell is represented by one faculty member at the department level. The representative will scrutinize and help the students to develop a project proposal for the ideas initiated by the students either directly or through the research group activities. The proposals are then shortlisted and if approved, the entire project will be funded by the University.  
The incubation cell also allows the students to make use of the resources available in the form of academic laboratories, research laboratories and industry partnership laboratories.

 

2.    Research Lab Facilities
Photonics Lab
The Photonics Lab is a research laboratory. This lab is equipped with Continuous domain instruments for Diffused Optical Tomography system which contains following devices: Laser diode and TCLDM9 mount, Temperature controller (TED200C), Laser diode controller (LED200C) of Thor Lab, Photo multiplier tube (Hamamatsu) & K218 mount and Lock in amplifier (SR830). Lab is also equipped with simulation software like NIRFAST and COMSOL. It provides a platform for post graduate students and doctoral research scholars to explore the field of biomedical imaging using optics.

 

 
 

Hardware Software Co-Design Lab
Hardware Software Co-design Laboratory is established to design high speed systems which support hardware as well as software implementation of real time application.  The lab is equipped with tool like XILINX VIVADO, XILINX ISE, XILINX EDK, XILINX SDK, XILINX SYSTEMGENERATOR and also XILINX VIRTEX 5, SPARTAN 6, SPARTAN 3 FPGA boards to support hardware implementation of the real time applications. The resources are made available for the faculty as well as to students for their research in the area of hardware software co-design, wherein students are exposed to learn the concepts of design high speed systems on FPGA. 

 

 
 

Sponsored Lab
TI has sponsored 6 Analog system lab kit PRO (ASLK) to ECE department LIC lab. ASLK PRO has been produced by mikroElektronika for Texas Instruments. This kit is designed for undergraduate engineering students to perform analog lab experiments. The main idea behind ASLK PRO is to provide a cost efficient platform or test bed for students to realize almost any analog system using general purpose ICs such as OP-Amps and analog multipliers.

 

 

 

3.Research Groups
VLSI & Embedded Systems Research 
The VLSI & Embedded Systems  research group head  Dr. Latha.R addressed the students of  ECE department and described the importance of both the  technology's and its domain skill expectations from industry.

RF & Communication Research Group

The main objective of this group is to develop the research culture and motivate RF aspirants and scholars who will be able to work together and progress. 
The group is guided by the Research coordinator Dr.S.Suganthi working in development of RF & Microwave Research Lab with Hardware & Software. Along with her there are faculty members Mr. Parthaworking in RF Signal Measurement using Spectrum Analyzer, Mr. Abijithworking in Computational Tomography using MATLAB, Mr.Shashikumarworking in Microstrip Antenna Array for Beam Formation for smart Antennas and Mr. Vivekworking  in Broadband Antennas for Modern Wireless Applications and  thrust areas of RF Engineering. 

 

 Activities Organized:

Dr. Suganthi being IEEE Student Branch Counselor started the Antenna Propagation Society (APS) Chapter under IEEE Student Branch. It was inaugurated on 08 March 2016 and its first event took place on 12 March 2016 with Dr. Girish Kumar, Professor, IIT Mumbai and as Guest speaker of the programme. The talk was focused on the Research Trends in Microstrip Antennas and Methods of Analyzing Microstrip Antenna Performance. 

Recently the group members organized workshop on Advancements in RF Antenna Design using MATLAB ToolBox on 10Sep 2016 in association with Core∈LTechnologies, Bengaluru under IEEE SB - APS Chapter. This workshop enabled student members to design RF & Microwave antennas using RF MATLAB Tool box.
