- Report on Young Researchers Meet 2018
The IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter flagship event Young Researchers’ Meet 2018 was held at Faculty of Engineering, Christ University on 25 August 2018.
The Inauguration Ceremony was held at the First block Auditorium and began at 9.30 A.M. The Chief guest for the event was Dr. Kannan Tinnium, GM-PRDC. The Ceremony Concluded by 10.15 A.M followed by two Technical Talks by Dr. Manohar Singh, CPRI on “ Recent Trends in Power Systems” and Dr. Gurunath Guralla, IISc on “ How to do research- a practical approach with an example” . The event was attended by 53 delegates from 14 different Academic and Industrial Affiliations.
The Mentoring session was conducted in three different categories namely Power Engineering, IoE/IoT based Control Systems and Industrial Automation. The delegates were divided into the three sessions based on their area of interests and were taken to the three different venues for interaction with the Mentoring Experts. Dr. Kannan Tinnium, Dr. Gurunath Guralla, Dr. Manohar Singh and Dr. K Deepa interacted with the dignitaries discussing on the topics pertaining to Power Engineering. Internal mentors, Mr. Venkataswamy. R , who also is an entrepreneur and the CEO of Gnangenea Technologies and Mr. Manikandan. P along with Mr. Haneesh K.M handled the other two sessions.
The mentoring sessions concluded by 3.45 P.M which was followed by the Valedictory function and certificate distribution in the Block I Auditorium.

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering & Centre for Industrial automation together organized an awareness session on “Opportunities in Industrial Automation” for UG students in ECE, EEE, CSE, MECH and AUTOMOBILE in various venues during July 9, 2018 – July 11, 2018. Mr. Manikandan. P, faculty coordinator for Centre for Industrial automation briefed on the various activities happenedlast year and activities planned for the current academic year. He was the Jury for mechatronics in India skills south 2018 conducted by National skill Development Corporation under Ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship & Selection round for Regional competition in Toyota technical training institute (Mechatronics skill).
Industrial automation is the use of control devices like programmable logic controllers to control machines used in Industry by replacing labour. Industry is challenged by various factors like withstand to dangerous manufacturing environments and also meeting energy efficient standards. Automation increases the production rate by producing greater output for a given labor input. The sensing elements convert the physical process variables such as flow, pressure, temperature, etc. into electrical or pneumatic form.
The manufacturing industries use machines to create its end products. Some of these manufacturing industries include textiles, food processing, car manufacturing etc. automation systems are used in every stage such as material handling, machining, assembling, inspection and packaging.
He gave insights on India skills competition conducted by National skill Development Corporation under Ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship and World skill competition. Students are motivated to participate in competitions by enhancing the skills. Students are informed about the value added course on skill development in mechatronics and onsite internship opportunity in Republican institute for Vocational education, Minsk, Belarus.

The Department organized a technical talk on “Different Power System Tools” on 8th July 2013.The Speaker was Mr.Balaji.P. from Power Research and Development Corporation (PRDC).The talk was extremely beneficial for the M.Tech students as well as the B.Tech students.
The Department organized a technical talk on ‘Influence of Harmonics on Energy Efficiency & Reliability’ on September 10th, 2013.The speaker was Mr. M.R. Srinivas, Technical Leader - Schneider Electric.
The Department organized an invited talk on Future Prospects in the Energy Sector’ on Sept 13 2013. Mr. P.Manivannan IAS, former Managing Director of BESCOM was the guest speaker.
Students of Fifth semester Electrical and Electronics Engineering secured First Place for their project titled “Load Flow Analysis for IEEE 24 Bus system using Simulink” in the Intramural project exhibition
The Second Semester M.Tech Power system students had the opportunity to visit the ‘Nelamangala 400/220kV Substation’ on 12th December 2013.Students were exposed to the real experience of Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
The PG and UG students of the Dept of Electrical and Electronics Engg. Were taken on an industrial visit to the campus of Schneider Electric which is one of the major players in Electrical products and research.
Eco sense Sustainable Solutions which is involved in the area of renewable Energy Resources conducted a two day workshop on 4 th and 5 th January, 2014, at the campus on the technical aspects of solar and wind energy resources.
The Second Semester M.Tech Power system & Fourth Semester B.Tech students had the opportunity to visit the ‘Solar PV grid Connected Power plant” on 3rd February 2014.Students were exposed to the real experience of Power Generation.
- Report of Visit to Nelamangala Power Substation in Bangalore CUFE
Students of fifth semester, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, C.U.F.E., visited the Nelamangala power substation in Bangalore on the 4th of July. Students spent two hours at the substation premises seeing in practice and learning about current and potential transformers, lightening arrestors and surge arrestors. They were given a demonstration on the working of circuit breakers and were also told about the current electricity demands and the various techniques used to achieve the demands.
The industrial trip was undertaken to give the students an actual view of the various terms they learn in class in their current semester. The students were accompanied by Prof. Manikandan, Asst. Professor, Dept of Electrical and Electronics Engg.
