In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the increased demand for blood for Covid patients, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with St. John’s Hospital, is conducting a Blood Donation Drive for students, staff and alumni of the university, on 19 May 2021.
The purpose behind this drive at this particular point in time, is to help the hospital maintain a good supply of blood before COVID-19 vaccinations for people above 18 years of age begins, as, once vaccinated, an individual would not be able to donate blood for at least a month.
This initiative is therefore being taken as the hospital is anticipating a drop in donors coupled with an increase in need as Covid cases continue to rise.
