The Department of Sociology and Social work organised a two-day training programme for women entrepreneurs in collaboration with Swakruta Trust, an NGO working in Bangalore to promote women entrepreneurs.  This was organised on 23 and 24 of September 2019 at the university campus. Around 150 entrepreneurs participated in the training.  Women entrepreneur Ms Nidhi Bhasin motivated the participants with anecdotes from her personal experience.  Details of the first Green school was shared by Ms Usha Mohan.  Details of government schemes were given by Ms Srividya Puppala.  Ms Priya Damle spoke of the role of mentors in the professional development of entrepreneurs.

On the second day several women from Janakiram nagar slum participated in the training programme.  A workshop on vocational skills was held to motivate marginalized women to undertake entrepreneurial activities.  The skill of making tie and dye material was taught.  This was followed by Terracotta jewellery making.   The speakers explained the financial details and methods of sourcing raw materials to the participants. A session on sustainable menstruation was given by green entrepreneur Ms Prachi Mandlekar.  A session on WhatsApp and social media advertising was also held to help women use the social media appropriately.

The students of the department of sociology and social work participated enthusiastically and organised a exhibition of the several products during the training programme. Earlier the women of the slum were trained in making eatables which has been fetching profits to the women of the slum.  A sale of these products was held on the campus on the second day.  The NGO Swakruta has also provided a stall to the slum women to participate in festival sales in ITPL, Bangalore.
