POLICY MAKING COMPETITION
The Electoral Literacy Club of Vrittanta, the Undergraduate Students' Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, organised a policy making competition on the topic, ‘Ecosystem Revival', to celebrate the occasion of United Nations Day. The participants were expected to formulate policies keeping in mind the objective of reviving the ecosystem, in not more than 300 words. The last date of submission of entries was 31 October, 2021. The entries covered aspects such as ways to prevent wastage of water, ways to curb deforestation and pollution. The participants came up with innovative and thought-provoking policies that can transform the present state of the ecosystem. The submissions of the policy making event were evaluated on the basis of originality, feasibility and creativity. Rency Jain from First Year EPS was declared the winner of the event. This event provided an avenue for the aspiring policymakers to observe the real-world scenario and think of ways to frame adequate policies to deal with it.

VRITTANTA GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS (2021-22)
Vrittanta, the Undergraduate Students’ Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, hosted the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on 1 October, 2021, from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM, via the online platform, Cisco WebEx. The event was attended by Rev Dr Fr Joseph CC, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, the faculty and students of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. Leann Philo Thomas and Aniruddha Ganguly were the masters of the ceremony. Vrittanta Gandhi Jayanti celebrations commenced with the Welcome Address by Aniruddha Ganguly. This was followed by a soulful invocation song by the Music Club.  The invocation song was followed by the Faculty Address by Dr Vagishwari S P, Head of the Department of History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Bangalore.

The Debate and MUN Club of Vrittanta, the UG Students' Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, organised a debate in relation to the International Day of Democracy on 15 September, 2021. The International Day of Democracy celebrates the values of the democratic culture. This is the day when the democracy supporters of the world come together to nurture the democratic institutions and exercise the privileges of a democratic society. The main feature of a democracy is often stated as the privilege to think and speak freely. This is complementary with the right to agree or disagree to a certain thing without the fear of being punished for doing so. India has been an important proponent of democracy and free thinking for several centuries and has the culture of Samvaad-or debate. The most iconic debates have taken place in this soil- everything from the back and forth between Krishna and Arjuna, documented in the Bhagavat Gita to the debates between Adi Shankaracharya and Mandan Mishra. There have also been cases where the common people have stood up against the wrongdoings of state and have kept their opinions without any fear- from the times of Chanakya to the freedom fighters of the modern era. There has never been a phase of one-way preaching in this nation. The participants of the debate event hosted by the Debate and MUN Club, Vrittanta also carried the same spirit forward.

The debate was being judged by three judges, all of them being the alumni of CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The topics of the debate were as the following:
•    The preliminary round- “Is reservation still relevant in the modern-day India?”
•    The final round- “The uniform civil code in India”
The participants were segregated into breakout rooms and each of the groups had a judge assigned. In the end of the round, each group had a winner shortlisted and that person would be sent to the final round. In both the rounds the debate was intense and involved focusing on the nuances of the topic. There was a healthy debate on the various aspects of the Uniform civil code and its causes and implications were discussed in detail. Whether it is applicable in a diverse nation like India, what will the impacts of the law be, why do we need to implement such a law in the first place were few of the wide range of issues addressed. The arguments that were made during the event addressed the problems of patriarchy, religious bigotry, and much more. The entire event lasted for almost four hours.

In the end, two winners were declared each from one side of the argument. From the opposing side the winner was Kishan Balaji of 5 HEP and from the supporting side it was Divyanshu Pandey 1 HEP. The judges and the participants alike had extremely positive reviews about this event and all in all, the event was a big success.


INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DEMOCRACY-QUIZ COMPETITION
Gyankosh, the Quiz Club of Vrittanta, the UG Students’ Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, organised a quiz contest on 14 September, 2021, to celebrate the occasion of the International Day of Democracy .This event aimed to celebrate the concept of democracy and freedom and the topic of the quiz was- ‘Milestones in India’s Electoral Democracy.’ The topic explores the role and importance of the entire electoral process has in a democracy and also lays a specific emphasis on the complexities and paradoxes one faces and witnesses in the Indian electoral system. The quiz, which was hosted on the My Quiz platform, was a rather small event with a very few but very enthusiastic participants. The club heads of the quiz club- Vaishna Ashok and Gollapalli Srijan showed immense alacrity and sincerity in conducting the event.

TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATIONS
The Teachers’ Day is one of the most awaited events in the Indian calendar. Celebrated on the birth anniversary of India’s second President - Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the day celebrates the contributions made by the teaching community to the entire society. In a country like India, where education is valued greater than wealth, the teacher acts as a medium of transmitting knowledge to the society, thus transforming mankind as a whole. India is a land of great teachers - Dronacharya to the Kuru Princes, the lord of death, Yama himself to little Nachiketa, Maharshi Vidyaranya to the Hakka and Buka brothers to the modern-day stalwarts like Dr Radhakrishnan and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. In India, the success of students is attributed directly to the selfless efforts of the teachers, or more specifically, the Guru, and so to express their gratitude towards their teachers, Vrittanta, the UG Students’ Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, organised Teachers’ Day Celebrations on 4 September, 2021. The teachers from the Departments of Economics and Sociology attended the event. The event was a spectacular one to witness and the students blended their hardwork and dexterity to produce a very impressive event.

The event was attended by Rev Dr Fr Joseph CC, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Dr M.J. Vinod, the guest speaker of the event, the faculty and students of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. Vrittanta Independence Day celebrations commenced with the Welcome Address by Tapas Hari. This was followed by a soulful rendition of the invocation song, ‘Sinking Deep’ by Nithila Nanthagopal. The invocation song was followed by the Inaugural Address by Rev Dr Fr Joseph CC, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Bangalore.
Fr Joseph CC, in his address, stated that the 75th Independence Day is a joyful occasion that every Indian would be proud of. He spoke about the responsibility of each Christite towards environment protection. He provided valuable insights on the alarming situation of climate change all across the globe. The debate over whether environment protection or human security must be accorded more importance, was also discussed by Fr Joseph CC in the inaugural address. He emphasised that human security leading to environment protection must be the goal that every Indian must try to achieve. The inaugural address was concluded by pointing out that each Independence Day brings challenges and responsibilities to the people.

The inaugural address was followed by the release of the manuscript, ‘Insights 2021’, a compilation of the research papers of the students who were a part of the Summer Internship programme of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. Saba Kaunain from 5 HEP, presented the names of the students whose research papers are a part of the manuscript and also talked about the Summer Internship programme. Dr Vagishwari S P, Head of the Department of History, released the manuscript. She spoke about how India’s struggle did not end with achieving independence and for the past seventy-five years, India has been struggling to mould itself into a self-sufficient nation. The release of the manuscript was followed by an enthralling music performance by the Vrittanta Music Club on the songs ‘Teri Mitti’ and ‘Ae Watan’.

The music performance was followed by the Speaker’s Address by Dr M.J. Vinod, Professor, Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University. Dr Vinod, in his talk, stated that Independence Day is celebrated to depict one’s solidarity with one’s nation. He pointed out how Independence Day is an occasion that reminds each citizen to rediscover his or her role and responsibility towards the nation. He highlighted the importance of the spirit of patriotism that is engrained in each person and of forging a common nationalist spirit. He laid great emphasis on the fact that India is much more than a geographical entity. As he spoke about the events that had occurred in the newly – independent India in 1947, the listeners recollected the tumultuous situation through which the nation was going through.

Dr Vinod spoke in great detail about the debates around the concept of nationalism. He stated Benedict Anderson’s view of nationalism. Anderson was of the view that nation is an imagined community and that print media capitalism led to the creation of imagined nationalism. Dr Vinod strongly emphasised that nationalism which is contentious of the virtues of other nations is not nationalism in its true sense. He also discussed what patriotism in its true sense entails. Patriotism nurtures a sense of responsibility in the citizens and in the government, it encourages all of us to work towards upliftment of the nation and to protect the constitutional values. He talked about how symbolic nationalism and patriotism, which do not imbibe the true sprit of these ideals, do not possess any worth. Dr Vinod also pointed out that partisanship is not patriotism. The thought – provoking talk ended with a clarion call to commemorate the contributions of the freedom fighters who laid the foundation of independent India.

The speaker’s address was followed by a captivating dance performance by the members of the Vrittanta Dance Club on the song ‘Teri Mitti’. This was followed by the Vote of Thanks by Nayanika Bali. The Vrittanta Independence Day celebrations came to an end with the national anthem.

YOUTH SPEAKS-INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
“It is easier to build stronger children than repairing broken men”. These words of Fredrick Douglass emphasise the importance of the youth in any society. The International Youth Day that is celebrated annually on the 12^th of August imbibes the same spirit. This day intends to celebrate the invaluable role of youth in the matters of the global society and also address the problems that are very crucial to youth all across the globe. In relation to the International Youth Day, the Debate and MUN Club of Vrittanta (the UG Students’ Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History) organised an event on August 13, 2021, from 12 to 1 PM, on Google Meet platform, titled “Youth Speaks”. The participants could talk about issues pertaining to youth, perform slam poetry and read out excerpts from their favourite books during the session. Around fifteen students participated in the event with each of them presenting the most interesting and thought-provoking topics on the virtual dais.

Two participants presented book reviews on ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ and on ‘A New Idea of India’. Apart from this, there were a few participants who presented mind-blowing poems. A poem which was about a little girl who was waiting for her father, who was fighting a war on the battlefront, stole everyone’s heart. Other participants spoke about various issues of social importance which included - juvenile crimes, anger management, seeking advice from elders, lessons from foreign policy that youth must imbibe, addiction of youth to e-games, influence of Swami Vivekananda and the role of youth in efficient nation building. Towards the end of the event, there was a fun interactive session between a set of three participants who presented the topic, ‘Youth and Money Management’, in a humorous manner, following which the event was concluded by the moderator.

The event, ‘Youth Speaks’, was a depiction of what the youth represents- from creativity to energy and from maturity to responsibility. This event displayed the importance and role of youth in today’s world and also provided certain very good examples to improve the efficiency of youth and ultimately, of the world itself.

VRITTANTA INAUGURATION 2021
The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History celebrated the annual inauguration ceremony of Vrittanta, the association of undergraduate students, on 13^th August, 2021 hosted by Abhinaya Kandaswamy and Dhruthi Subash. The long awaited ceremony began with a welcome address following which was a beautiful rendition of an invocation song called “God I look to you”. During the inaugural address, Dr Fr Jose CC took the opportunity to speak about the resilience of Vrittanta that stood in the face of the ongoing pandemic and still ensured that the students did not miss out on important opportunities and college experience. The association, he said, played a vital role in bringing the student community together despite the challenges of the online platforms and he congratulated Dr Vineeth Thomas, the faculty coordinator of Vrittanta on the same. The inaugural address was followed by a stunning dance performance, a mix of various dance forms of India, by the students of dance club that left the audience mesmerized. Then came the much awaited moment that every member of the department was looking forward to – the announcement of the new core team of Vrittanta 2021 and to make it as much as real and fun as possible the team had put together a slideshow showcasing the latest members of the various core committees and clubs. Following this Dr Vagishwari S P, the Head of Department, History addressed the gathering in which she emphasized the role played by Vrittanta in inculcating wholesome values in the students besides academics. She spoke of the meaning of Vrittanta which means ‘a narrative’ after which the student associated is named. She said that Vrittanta is not just a space for extra co-curricular activities but rather a place which encourages narratives of various capacities. She concluded by congratulating Rhea Ganesh and Varna Sajee, the new student conveners of Vrittanta, and the team for their efforts in organising a well-put and delightful inaugural ceremony. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Srushti N S followed by the Christ anthem.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” – Pablo Picasso. The Art Club (Kayal) of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History organized an art competition titled ‘Update Your Canvas’ in which the participants were provided with two topics, a word and a symbol from which they were required to opt one. The participants had to depict their interpretation of either one of them by being innovative. The topics that were provided to the participants were: (1) Ling-di-long (derived from Welsh, the word denotes a casual wanderer who is not bound by the factor of time and has no specific direction in mind), (2) Yin and Yang symbol. The participants were free to submit either hand-drawn or digital entries. They could use a combination of different media such as painting and sketching to express their novel thoughts on the topic that they chose. 

The participants were required to submit their entries by 4 June, 2021 via Google Forms. The event, ‘Update Your Canvas’ received five ingenious submissions. The entries were judged on the basis of criteria such as originality, creativity, relevance to the theme and artistic skills. Roopa M.B. (2 HEP) emerged as the winner of the event and was awarded the Certificate of Merit for her phenomenal art work. P. Varshitha Palyam (2 HEP), Sofiya Saji (2 HEP), Amrutha Shimog (2 HEP) and Emmanuel Alexander (2 HEP) were awarded the participation certificates for their invaluable contributions to the event. ‘Update Your Canvas’ was undoubtedly an event that helped the participants to explore the unexplored realms of creativity.  

AIR CRASH

Air Crash was a fun event organised by the Stage and Event committee and the Debate and MUN Club of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. It was an interactive event where each of the participant is given one real life personality to enact and all of them are in a fictional setting where each one of them is on a crashing plane and they have to convince the pilots to get the last parachute to save their own lives. This convincing has to be done by imbibing the personality traits of the characters they represent. The characters included leading public personalities all over the world- politicians, actors, singers and models, each one of them being specimens in their own ways. The event consisted of each of the participants re-creating the real-life icons in the most innovative way possible, by producing both theatrical aesthetics and political knowledge. 

The various characters portrayed included- Yogi Adityanath, Imran Khan, Rahul Gandhi, Kim Kardashian, Rakhi Sawant, Rajnikanth and many more. Each one of the participants gave an outstanding performance. The game was played in two rounds. The first-in which all the people played their characters and the next in which only five were selected in which each person had to argue with the other person. After the end of the second round, the winners were selected. The event was very creative and entertaining. The winning characters of this contest were-

MUSICAL SHOWCASE

What would life be without music? We’d absolutely never want to know that because music makes life beautiful and liveable. Thus, to make our stay at home a little more bearable, the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History orchestrated a live ‘Musical Showcase’ on 9th June that witnessed some great and moving performances by our very own talented students. It took off with a moving rendering of Hallelujah, and then moved on to some lively and upbeat performances, including an original composition too, such as the ‘Summer of 69’, ‘New Light’, ‘No One’, ‘Jag Ghoomeya’ that the listeners found it very difficult to not move along and enjoy the songs as the performers seemed to be doing. And adding on to the evening were some beautiful and stirring renditions of ‘Kalank’, ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘Aayiram Kannumaay’ that left the audience nostalgic. However, the best part of this musical showcase was the coming together of various languages and music genres that made the evening, truly, an unforgettable one. 
 

FANDOM TO WORDS

The event Fandom to Words, organised by the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, integrated two of the most profound forms of art- Cinema and Literature meet on the same creative canvas. This event aimed to bring the enthusiasm and passion of the readers and film lovers to the paper, in form of an article that would let the student express their views and perspectives of their favourite film or book. The event’s call for articles from students saw a positive response and a total of seven people submitted their writings. Each of these have encapsuled a unique idea to express and an opinion to keep wrapped within the finest skills of language composition.

The various submissions included a diverse range of themes and genres. An article spoke of pluralism and secularism in modern India in reference to the novel- Suheldev by Amish Tripathi. The article related the policies of the 11th century ruler to how the present- day India can bring about unity amidst its diversity. Another article spoke about a very deep subject of- construction and perpetuation of gender roles in society, in context of the book- “The Handmaids Tale” by Margaret Atwood. The other one spoke of the life of Indian Bengali wives in a foreign nation and the relationship they share with their children and how they are brought up in a foreign nation This was written with reference to the works of Jhumpa Lahari. Likewise there were articles on the movie- Little Women by Greta Gerwig. This event all in all was a unique experiment with the ideas and resources pooled in by various clubs and the and outcome being creative, productive and also very entertaining.
                                             

SUMMER TRIVIA NOON

The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History organized a generic quiz called ‘Summer Trivia Noon’ on 28 May, 2021 via the platforms, Google Meet and MyQuiz. The questions of the quiz revolved around the happenings in the areas of politics, entertainment, sports, economy, space, medicine and literature, during the months of March, April and May. The participants had to answer a total of thirty questions, with the time limit of each question being thirty seconds. The participants were required to switch on their cameras throughout the course of the quiz so as to keep up the spirit of integrity. J. Aditya came first in the quiz and was awarded the Certificate of Merit. Rahul Preman, Jose Benny and Azin George were awarded participation certificates for their active participation in the event. ‘Summer Trivia Noon’ was an enriching event that provided the participants and the organisers, an opportunity to learn more about the current state of affairs all across the globe. 
 

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it”, said Robert Swan. Therefore, it is highly essential that we realize our dire situation and work towards mending our ways. Keeping that in mind, Vrittanta (the Undergraduate Student Association of the Department of International Studies, History and Political Science) hosted a celebration for the World Environment Day with the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. The chief guest of the event was Anand Malligavad, the renowned lake conservationist of Bengaluru. The celebration commenced with a cheerful and uplifting invocation song called ‘Send It On” performed by the music club. This was followed by an address by Dr Vagishwari S P, the Head of Department, who imparted a great knowledge on the significance of the day by shedding light on the fact that it is not enough to know about the environmental degradation but also trace its journey since the beginning of industrial revolution. She emphasized that this celebration should not be taken into account just as an event but as a moment of deep introspection of what it means to be a part of nature and the need of inclusiveness in our actions.

The emcee then invited Anand Malligavad, who at the moment was on the outskirts of Bengaluru having completed the planting of 2500 saplings to celebrate the day. This was quite a moving and inspiring moment to witness as it made us see what it takes to make a change. He began by speaking about how his proximity to nature, even as a child, drew his attention towards lake rejuvenation and environment conservation. He said that the unplanned urbanization such as the replacement of lakes with infrastructure development eventually led to environmental degradation. One of the most important things that we learnt were the methods he devised in order to rejuvenate lakes. Unlike the other government implemented measures that use patch work methods as means of damage control; he stated the significance of naturally replacing the missing links of nature by studying the history of the area which would produce effective results. He taught us that it is our prime responsibility to give back to the environment that has sustained us over the years and preserve and protect it for the future generations.

This was followed by the release of a guide book by Dr Vagishwari S P which is an initiative by the students of the department as a means to apply simple day-to-day activities with conscious actions towards saving and preserving the environment. Preceding the end of the event was a message delivered by Dr Fr Joseph C C, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, who spoke about the eco friendly measures undertaken by CHRSIT (Deemed to be University) especially the water conservation methods that not only keep the greenery in the campus alive but also effectively prevent the wastage of water. He reiterated the utmost importance of individual efforts towards ecosystem restoration that would consequently lead to a better and brighter future.
In addition to the live event, the media team of Vrittanta also kept the social media platforms alive by holding interesting quiz polls given by the quiz club along with the article submissions by the literary club and videos by music and dance club to spread awareness about the ecosystem restoration and environment conservation. Both the events of the celebration witnessed huge student participation making it a great success.

Thus, the World Environment Day Celebration organised by Vrittanta was a thought provoking event that is sure to inspire students to make and promote mindful changes in and around them to revive our planet and make it a better place to live.

Beethoven once said that, “Music can change the world.” This statement by one of the greatest musicians of the world shows the impact music can have on not just an individual but the world as a whole. We have seen different genres of music emerge over time and one of those is patriotic music that ignites and inspires patriotic feelings in people. A perfect opportunity was given to the students to do the same in the form of a Patriotic Song Competition on January 19, 2022 as a part of the upcoming Republic Day Celebrations of the department. The event was hosted by the Music Club of Vrittanta, the undergraduate students association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). Several students from freshers to seniors took the stage and enthralled the audience with their performances. From emotional renditions of “Teri mitti”, “Sandese aate hain” that moved the audience to tears to the uplifting and lively singing of “Shabashiyaan”, “Aye Watan” to some absolutely unmissable carnatic and classical music performances of “Vande Maataram”, “Jaya Jaya Hai Bhagwati Surabharati” and “Vande Bharathambe”  this music competition was a complete package. At the end, the judges Rhea Rose Abraham, Chekhov Nihar Singha, and Orleando Ch Sangma gave a brief feedback and praised the efforts of the participants. All in all, it was an afternoon spent well amidst fellow melophiles.

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION
CHRISTINA JOHNSON, 6 EPS

Vrittanta, the Undergraduate Students’ Association of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, hosted the Republic Day celebrations on 27 January, 2022, from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM, via the online platform, Cisco WebEx.

The event was attended by Rev Dr Fr Jose CC, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, the faculty and students of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. Fathima Sana and Srilakshmi were the emcees of the event. The event commenced with the emcees providing valuable insights on Republic Day. This was followed by the Welcome Address by Fathima Sana. After the welcome address, the invocation song was rendered eloquently by Sheba from the Vrittanta Music Club. The invocation song was followed by the Inaugural Address by Rev Dr Fr Jose CC, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of CHRIST (Deemed to be) University, Bangalore.

Fr Jose CC commenced his address by talking about the department’s tradition of celebrating Republic Day. He stated that on 23 January, 2021, the 125^th Birth Anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose, the renowned freedom fighter and founder of the Indian National Army, was observed and that Republic Day is an occasion to honour such leaders and other unsung heroes who have shaped the history of India. He spoke about the significance of each individual’s contributions to his or her country. Today, the world is home to the largest generation of young people. India is a country that is characterised by a large share of young population. Fr Jose emphasised that harnessing the power of the youth is of utmost importance in this context. He stated that young people form the backbone of any society and shape the future. He reiterated that young people are liable to protect the cultural and traditional value systems while embracing the changes in society. The young population has a significant role in nation building all over the world. The inaugural address culminated by providing the idea that the belief of youth in the political system and political processes would get translated into voluntary political obligation over a period of time.

The inaugural address was followed by the release of the second edition of 'The Athenian', the annual newsletter of the Department of International Studies, Political Science and History by Rev Dr Fr Jose CC. Christina Johnson and Anupama Manjunath, the Heads of the Vrittanta Literary Club provided insights on the first online version of the newsletter and invited Fr Jose to release it. They spoke about the newsletter being an initiative of the Literary Club that aims to serve not just the purpose of being an informative newsletter but also provides a platform for the undergraduate students of the department to showcase their literary and creative talents. They stated that the cover story of the newsletter consists of works revolving around the theme, ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and that it also includes articles and opinion pieces on various other diverse topics by students of the department.

The release of the newsletter was followed by an enthralling music performance by Akshobhya Y Muralidhara from the Vrittanta Music Club. This was followed by the Guest Lecture by Dr Madhumati Deshpande, Assistant Professor, Department of International Studies, Political Science and History. Dr Madhumati spoke about the privilege of Indians to be born in a free and democratic nation. She emphasised that every individual has the responsibility to sustain the democratic nature of the country. She laid focus on the significance of creating awareness about democratic rights, voting and other political processes in the country. She threw light on how acts like questioning false propagandas and checking the historical accuracy of information before disseminating it via various communication channels can make a difference. Dr Madhumati reiterated the importance of raising awareness about taking an active part in the political processes of the nation.

The guest lecture was followed by a captivating dance performance by the members of the Vrittanta Dance Club. This was followed by Kishan B Srivastav from Third Year HEP delivering the Republic Day message. Varna Sajee and Rhea Ganesh, the Student Coordinators of Vrittana, presented the events planned by various clubs for the even semester. This was followed by declaration of the results of the Patriotic Song Competition which had been organised by the Vrittanta Music Club, by Dr Vagishwari S.P, Head of the Department of History. Goutham Sankar (4 EPS) and Akshobhya M (6 HEP) secured the first and second places in the competition, respectively. The third place was shared by Gayathri K.K (4 HEP) and Sreeram S.R (6 EPS). Dr Vagishwari spoke about India carving its own identity among the comity of nations, after having existed for more than seven decades as a nation. She reiterated the idea “With great power comes great responsibility”. She also emphasised that as citizens of the nation, we can be critical about the actions of the government that affect the future of the nation rather than being cynical. This was followed by the Vote of Thanks by Srilakshmi. The Vrittanta Republic Day celebrations came to an end with the national anthem.
