The department of economics has become a catalyst of economic development and innovation of the student community in the university since the inception of ‘Amartya’, an economics association. It’s been serving as an ideal platform for building knowledge for the past few years. The inauguration of Amartya for the academic year 2019-20 was held on 26th June 2019 at the main auditorium from 12-1pm. All three years students of HEP, EPS, PSEco, students of first and second MA Applied Economics and the whole faculty team of the department were part of the programme.

The programme commenced with an inaugural dance of a student of II MA Applied Economics, which was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr Rajeshwari U.R., the faculty coordinator of Amartya welcomed the august gathering. Dr John Joseph Kennedy, the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences delivered the presidential address. He shared his concerns and expectations on departmental activities to enrich the diverse student community. While Dr Joshy K J, Head of the Department of Economics, officially announced the names of the office-bearers of the year 2019-20, the dean inducted the newly elected members of the association.

The newsletter of the department of Economics “Ephemeris” was released along with a book by Indian Folk and following that, the CEO of Indian Folk Mr Chandrasekhar addressed the gathering.  Ms Abhinaya M. the president of Amartya gave a brief introduction about “Amartya” and the activities and events that have been planned for the academic year 2019-2020. A general knowledge quiz within the domain of economics was conducted by team Amartya at the end to engage the audience. The inauguration programme formally concluded with the vote of thanks rendered by Dr Greeshma Manoj, a senior faculty in the department.
