National Conference on Affirmative Action and the Indian Constitution

OBJECTIVE: In view of the changing times, it is inevitable that extensive and productive discourses take place so as to bring to the forefront, the issues that presently require our attention. It is in furtherance of facilitating such discourses and interaction that School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) conceptualized an annual national conference based upon a broad theme and various associated sub themes in the year 2012. Hence, keeping in mind the significance of such discussion and the kind of response received over the years, we invite students and academicians in the field of law to be a part of the National Conference, 2016 to keep alive the spirit of healthy discussions and discourse with a view to focussing our attentions on issues that matter to the people of our country and primarily, India itself. This year, the theme was based on the reservation system, which is one of the most pressing social issues in our country, today.


THEME: Affirmative Action and the Indian Constitution


SUB THEMES: 1) Jurisprudence of affirmative action, 2) Affirmative action and the marginalized population, 3) Opportunities in public employment, 4) The right to education


DATE AND VENUE OF THE EVENT: 8th and 9th January, 2016 at the central block, fourth floor. The inaugural ceremony was held at the main auditorium and the valedictory ceremony at the mini auditorium, central block.

Number of sessions: 3 (On the first day) and 1(On the second day)
Number of guests (Inaugural and Valedictory combined): 3 including Smt. Indira Jaising, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Former Additional Solicitor General of India, Mr.Brijesh Kalappa, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Former Advocate General of Haryana and Dr. Nanda Kishore, Advocate on Record, Supreme Court of India.


ORGANIZING COMMITTEE:
Faculty Coordinators- Dr. Fincy P and Mr.Pukraj Agarwal
Student Convenors- Ms.Vineetha Stephen, Ms.Sindhuja Kashyap, Ms.Mahamaya Chatterjee and Mr. Naman Awasthi
The Organizing committee also comprised of heads and sub heads of five sub committees, namely food, accommodation, travel, resource persons and hospitality. They were also 25 volunteers to assist these committees.


OBJECTIVE ACHIEVED:
The programme was a huge success owing to the enthusiastic and well prepared participants and moderators. The two day event witnessed extensive discussions on the reservation system in our country, which turned out to be an intellectual simulating experience for all.
