In the academic year of 2015-16, Christ school of law entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, which mandates conductingannual social awareness drivesensuring student participation.This is to be accomplished through legal aid camps organised by college.
Accordingly, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University)organized a 3-day legal aid programme in academic year 2017-18 on the 8th, 9th and 10th December, 2017.This programme was organized by the legal aid and awareness committee, 2017-18 consisting of LL.Bstudents. 62 LL.M students participated in this programme. The camp was held in villageHiredoddavadi, in Tumkur district.
The programme focused on following three aspects:
1.Bringing legal awareness on issues like, evils of dowry, property rights of women, ills of alcoholism, alternative dispute resolution, etc.
These were conveyed through enacting skits.
2. Conducting surveys to find out awareness and accessibility of basic identification to secure benefits like, birth certificate, Aadhaar card, Voter’s ID, Pan cards, etc. among the villagers.
3.  Providing legal assistance for issues faced by individuals.
The event achieved its objective of spreading legal awareness and advising people on their legal queries. It also succeeded in convincing villagers that alternative dispute resolutions are a worthy option as against litigation, and in informing people of their right to seek legal aid.
