Inauguration of the Social Work Association
The Department of Social Work inaugurated the Social Work Association, SOCIA, on 13th July 2016. The program began with a prayer song followed by a felicitation address by Dr. Mallika Krishnaswami, Dean, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Dr. Mallika gave a brief introduction about Sustainability to the junior batch of MSW students. She insisted upon the responsibility of the Social worker Student to take into account Sustainable Development as one of the core focus of the Social Work Association.The chief guest of the function, Mr. Pronb Dasgupta, IAS (Retd.), Director, TERI gave the inaugural address where he explained the importance of long-term sustainability for building successful associations. Mr. Pronab Das Gupta extended his appreciation for being a part of the launch of the Social Work Association of Christ University. Mr.Das Gupta spoke about Sustainable development, Global warming, Climate change, transportation, and the effect of consumption of natural resources by human life. He connected allthese issues and suggested the Association to focus its high motives on these aspects. He concluded the talk by saying that the launch of the Association at the University is "a small step but a giant leap for Humanity".The elected members of the Social Work Association are as follows.
All the office bearers were honored with the badges by the Chief Guest Mr. Pronab Das Gupta, Dr. Mallika Krishnaswami, and Dr. Victor Paul, Head of the Department of Social Work. All the office bearers were congratulated and further the program continued with the Oath taking ceremony of the Office Bearers of the Association of Social Work.Mr. Abinesh Ragunathan, President of the Association was invited to address the audience. He extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, faculty members, and the young budding social workers of Christ University. He mentioned that the Association will act as a link between the department and the students as well as it will provide a forum for organizing all the activities of the Department of Social Work. He alsoencouraged the students to feel free to approach the Association members and share their valuable information, ideas, suggestions, and issues. The Association will provide equal opportunity for all students and will ensure that every decision taken will be United and participatory. He invited the students to participate in every event of the Association without which the functioning of the Association will not be effective. The President took an opportunity to thank his fellow mates and faculty members on the behalf of his office bearers for electing them and took a pledge to work fruitfully. Mr. Abinesh Ragunathan concluded with the saying "Coming together is the Beginning, keeping together is the Progress and working together is the Success".An official release of Department Newsletter and Student Magazine was carried out by the Chief Guest of the day Mr. Pronab Das Gupta along with Dr. Mallika Krishnaswami Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dr. Victor Paul, Head of the Department of Social Work. The inauguration ceremony concluded with the university anthem and vote of thanks given by Ms. Bhagyasree S, Secretary, Social Work Association.
Teachers’ Day Celebration 2016
Teachers’ Day Celebration is an event that holds a fond spot in the hearts of both the teachers and their students, as the teachers get to see the level of respect and appreciation their students have towards them and the students get a chance to show their gratitude towards their teachers.Teachers’ Day Celebration 2016 was organized on 17th September 2016 by the Social Work Association of the Department along with the Ethnic day celebration of the University. The program was organized at the Mini Auditorium of Block-1 of Christ University.The program began at 10:30 am with a welcome speech by Mr. Abhinesh, President of Social Work Association which was followed by a melodious duet by Sibin and Deepika.Then the Vice- Secretary of Social Work Association conducted an activity where the teachers were supposed to pick a chit and enact what it asked them to do. That was an interactive and fun session for both the teachers and the students as seeing the teachers sing, dance, and imitate their students.Honouring teachers was the next program where students spoke about each teacher and presented them with a memento. It was a memorable experience for the teachers to feel the love of their beloved students.Mr. Nikhil, a first-year student, and a well-known magician put up a small show for the audience followed by a touching song “Stay” by Ms.Noopur and Ms. Jeslet. The song resonated in each and everyone’s heart present there because it held meaning to everybody. Dr. Victor Paul, the Head of the Social Work Department addressed all the students and emphasized the importance of planning and goal setting which was mind-broadening for all present there.Ms. Blessia from 1st MSW sang a beautiful song followed by the Vote of thanks by Ms. Bhagyashree Sambrani, Secretary of Social Work Association.The program ended with cake cutting and group photos.
