Course Description
There are global requirements for trained professionals who understand the area of Forensic Psychology and this course aims to be a stepping stone to enter a career in Forensic Psychology.
The main aim of the advanced course in Forensic Psychology is to impart scientific knowledge of the aetiology of crime and knowledge in the state of art psychological and neuropsychological techniques used for understanding criminal behaviour. The course will have lectures and practical demonstration of Forensic Neuropsychology techniques used for testing suspects and accused persons. Changing concepts of crime and crime scenarios will be discussed in detail.
The pedagogy is structured around lectures and facilitating discussion on topics such as:
· Psychological and psychosocial basis of behaviour and personality development
· Factors that lead to criminal behaviour, criminal profiling
· Methods of interviewing suspects
· Scope for psychological assessments of suspects for facilitating understanding of the crime committed
· Neuropsychological basis of cognitive processes and behaviour which would serve as the foundation for understanding their aberrations.
· Criminal cases, in which judgments and convictions have been made
· International trends in forensic psychology investigations and the changing scenarios of crime investigation for national security and preservation of social security, and individual’s rights to remain silent during investigations will also be covered.
Students will also get an understanding of formulation of cases for forensic psychology investigations and judicial formalities for case presentation.
Detailed Demonstrations / Labs using Polygraph and EEG, which are used for lie-detection and that of Brain Electrical Oscillations Signature profiling for detection of remembrance of autobiographic episodes will be conducted in detail. The merits and disadvantages of these techniques and other techniques like fMRI will be discussed in detail. The demonstrations / labs will be conducted at Axxonet Brain Research Laboratory.
