Successful livelihood activity

Bechaghat, a small village with 25 families is one of the target villages of Bastar project under Bethiya Cluster. Though it is just 1 km away from the main road, it is not approachable during rainy season due to flashfloods and one of the major problems of this village is the unavailability safe drinking water. The villagers depend heavily on wells and rivers for the consumption of water. As the intake of contaminated water causes various critical water borne diseases, the villagers’ requested the gram panchayat and other govt. officials to provide tube well or other sources for safe drinking water. However, their pleas fell on deaf ears.  

Meanwhile the members of St. Alfonsa SHG attended various training programs during which they learnt about a Government Welfare Scheme which provides safe drinking water through high raised water tank with motor pump. The women of St Alfonsa SHG applied for the same and their proposal to the Gram Sabha to provide them water supply system for safe drinking water was sanctioned. Eventually, the water supply system with high raised water tank with motor pump was constructed in Bechaghat village and the villagers appreciated SHG women for their initiative.
